On The Buses "Getting around" (Back In The dDay)

Recommended Posts

Things were so different back then and many on here will have some Fond, Funny And Sadly Tragic Memmories they may wish to share.

In a nutshell back then, not many people had there own transport (owned a car) and relied on Trains and buses to travel to your favourite Soul Nite, All Dayer/Niter

Here in Scunny we mostly hired a Coach or Mini Bus or Transit van with seats in the back, anything we could get our hands on to get to be where we wanted to be. Those that had a car, well we would pile in and share petrol expenses, and push come to shove Thumb It! You had to really work your arse off to get to be where you wanted to be.

The thing i loved so much about arriving at the big Niters and Dayers was looking around at the Coaches drawing up out front or in the Car Parks to see where they had come from and spotting people smiling at you from inside the coach as they recognise you and can't wait to catch up with you as they may well not have seen you for some time, just like a family reunion ( Which i suppose it was ) as we felt like we were one big Happy Family.

Scooters were always in evidence too with Scooter Clubs arranging to meet up too, Great times, Great Memories, Lets Share Them.

Yep,riding the[bus]was the way to go back then as we hung out with our friends and chilled, once and awhile some fool would start something[maybe a gun was involved]but it was quickly handled and we rolled on,I guess my fondest memory is having a date and she didn't mind you not having a car[that would never work today].

Used to go to a regular monthly soul night in Amsterdam by bicycle, even with my DJ box. That was a round trip of about 16 miles.

The journey took you through the Amsterdam woods, which is pitch dark, so it’s just you, your bike light and a hand-held torch. Really enjoyed coming home and cycling through there at 4am because of all the noises - owls, frogs and whatever - and especially in the summertime because you’d be cycling through the woods as the sun came up.

About five years ago we moved a bit further away from Amsterdam, which put an end to the soul night cycling, so now it’s bus and train into the city centre and a night bus home. Would much rather I could still do it by bike.
