Pete S
I thought my first was Dancing In The Streets by Martha & The Vandellas on Tamla Motown reissue in 1969 but I bought You Ain't Livin' Until You're Lovin' by Marvin & Tammi and that must have been 1968. The very last one I bought was Betty Bibbs on Kent for 99cents n.b. I would have had absolutely no idea that it was a 'soul' record, I just bought records I heard on the radio when it was my birthday or christmas etc Edited December 7, 2006 by Pete-S Link to comment Social source share

Drew3
Discounting Pinky and Perky, the first record I bought was Stoned Love by the The Supremes. The last was probably Open the door To Your Heart....Darrell Banks in 1975/6 just before I sold the modest collection I had to buy a Christmas present for a girl I was going out with. Could Pinky and Perky count as soul? I've heard worse on the scene! KTF. Drew. Link to comment Social source share
soulAdequateNP
First record purchased (1977): The Brothers "Sing Me" (UK Bus Stop) - an Opportunity Knocks winner in a pop-reggae sort of vein First Northern (1978): James Coit "Black Power" on a pressing off Chesterfield market - this was a "whats this? its brilliant" situation, I didn't even know what Northern Soul was at the time First Collectors Item (1980): Sly and the Family Stone "Dance To The Music" on a US Epic white demo, £3.50 from JM Most recent purchase (about 2 wks ago): Mary Saxton "Take My Heart" (Quality), kind of full circle as this also came from JM Link to comment Social source share
