Superb photo Pablo. You rarely see that kind of quality from those kodak instamatic cameras that everybody used.

The colours are really sharp & strong. Nice one. Phil O'Hearn is still on the scene.

Macca.

'Tis a good pic isn't it? I did scan it a very high res to keep as much quality as i could. Talking of Mr. O'Hernia, if you look at all 4 pics in my galley, they all involve Phil. I only have 1 other pic from those times not uploaded, of me asleep on a train back from some allnighter, and Phil took that! Like we were joined at the hip!! I was also best man at his wedding to the lovely Yas.

Went with Phil & his 'crew' to the 30th (?) St. Ives anniversary a couple of years ago. Had a great (but very weary) night.

Hi Paul....just told Kathy (Rosie) about your post.....she's in the shower at the mo, she remembers you well, she said that she saw you at St.Ives the last time she was over in the UK for the revival.

Baz

Used to know a Chick Patten from Bedford way back in St. Ives days. Small chap, blond hair.

Used to go to Ives from Kettering. North Park first (now sadly a block of flats!) to warm up. Caught the coach from opposite the Corn Market Hall, where I believe they now put on Northern nights.

Was friends with ppl from all over. Norwich Brum, Sheffield. Went out - briefly!- with a girl from Doncaster, called Steph Brewer. Remember she had an old beetle. We kinda 'got together' in the pitch black oldies room!

Also had a crush on Rosie from Norwich, now down in Oz I believe.

Loved this all-nighter. Only ever really been a fan of oldies tho...

Hiya Baz,

thats right, caught up with her at that St Ives revival (30th?). Still had an old black & white pic she gave me of her at school i think, so I gave her it back. remember she used to knock around with a girl called Cheryl too, and Chalky Keelan (think thats right???).

She knew Phil from Peterboro really well too i think. I knocked around with him on a pretty permanent basis!

Cheers

Bedford.

if it's the same chic i'm thinking of, we used to live in the same notorious flat for a while in nottingham in the late 70s, officially it was the late jez partridge from derby's flat, but it ended up like a northern commune for a while.

chic (steve patton) was really diminutive, about five foot five, he was originally was from bedford, but due to borstal etc. had relocated all over, he seemed to know everyone, and everyone knew chic.

he'd been part of the black country scene for a while, the man was a legend, a brilliant dancer and just great fun to be a round.

things turned sour in our flat after jez's girlfriend tracy's inquest, we all got busted, chic, me, jez, john from hemmel, karen his mrs.

after that i moved back to leicester, then down to cornwall in 1980, god i haven't seen chic for about 30 years, if anybody knows his wherabouts, i'd love to catch up with him.

we had some great times in that flat .....jeremy charles partrideg r.i.p.

i remember the st ivo centre. i used to travel there in my mini with a girl i knew from newbury and her mate and my friend mark(bicknell) from caversham. i was a great place and the oldies room was like the night owl all dark and gloomy. remember seeing geno washington and the ram jam band there and im almost certain there was another british soul singer there as well, not on the same night tho.

I dj'd at the fleet for Ken Cox then was asked to do a dayer at St Ives, i was supposed to be in the small room playing up front northern with Sam & others but for some reason it was closed, Ken put me on in the main room & i thought it went well with the floor ( for me anyway :D ) busy. Got a letter through the post a few days later sayin "your sevices are no longer req by the east anglian soul club" Charmin! :(

Some good all dayers there in the early 80s as well.

Can't remember who was running it then, around 82-83? Don't think it was Cox.

Arthur that letter you got should be a badge of honour!!! Discharged by Ken Cox for playing quality music, respect to you!

Belting do's at St Ives... some of the best dayers (apart from the Palais) just a buzz from the moment we walked out of the Peacock Pub in Kirton through to leaving the do and .... walking into the Peacock pub in Kirton, only to be told it was closing time. All those mentions of Phil O'Hearne, he's no longer with Yaz which is a shame. Picked him up many a weekend to go to a do or record fair from his "van" in Dukesmead along with Malc Evans, Vic Fairhurst and the rest of the wreckin crew

Happy days

+ Random "Welshies" we would meet thumbing it around the back lanes of Cambs :wicked:

I only missed a few, I remember Geno & Jnr Walker anniv ,It shut down so quick that I lost touch with all the friends I had made in the East Lands :( ,,,,,,,,,,,, and Phil O'Hearne  I met up with him after 30 odd years at The "Welly" alldayer , last year !!!

Remember it well, Huge DJ line up, Mick H,James T, Kitch + others and nobody came! Yet a mile down the road those moldy Ivo reunion nights got packed out.

T'was one of those defining points that stopped me seeing the soul scene through rose tinted specs :(

I know what you mean John :glare:

.The flyer I was trying to put up was the first one , there was 2 . I did the first and Russ & Steve took on the second . I had enough with just one . 2 years with soul nights . Got a great venue , brills' for all- nighters ,something different from the same old in Peterborough & cambs, they kept telling me. So I went for it ,got 130 in, lost a grand , not the money that pissed me off but the local soulies telling me to sort my djs out ,"they are playing crap" . Mick was on at the time .& all those who said great will be there , put the tickets on the door, never fooking showed

Went to St Ives in the 70's with Shaun Chambers and Kojac plus about 8 others from the Burton area, in a mini bus someone hired. As said, a burger to get to but once there, what a night, however a pit lamp would have been useful in the Oldies room as couldn't see a thing, also remember Chic around that time too.
