Question on ripping vinyl on Audacity

Recommended Posts

It’s been a few years since I used audacity and I can’t get it to work.

I’m connecting my amp to laptop with an RCA to 3.5mm cable from master output and plugging into laptop mic/headphone port. When I play a record there is nothing registering at all.

can anyone help???!!!

In a laptop your sound card will be built into the motherboard.  to get the 'sound card' to function you will need the appropriate drivers (e.g Realtek) and there's a little bit of software often called the 'mixer' which lets control the volume, output the the speakers and headphone socket. The input control lets you choose from the microphone and the LINE IN. You will need to set it to line in  i.e the cable from your amp's out cable plugged into the line in socket. You may also need to select the line option in your software (Audacity)

Google 'sound drivers & your laptop make and model' for it's latest drivers and 'mixer' software

Have used Audacity for years on my Mac lap top, a recent software update apparently, does not support Audacity ,typical Apple!

I've started using 'Garage Band' an Apple app/download, which seems to work OK, and is definitely easier to work with than Audacity.

May be an alternative to have a look at for some of you guys.
