Very interesting, I'd never heard this - Personally I think this tune is probably a bit more pop than garage but they certainly look the part and had garage roots. What's extremely fascinating, to me, though is the song is written by Jim Holvay of The Mob. Their version of Open The Door To My Heart is a much more garage-y take on the original, sped up and funkier, one of my favourites.

Pushing Too Hard is definitely garage (was on the original 1972 Nuggets compilation) although they had, unusually, an electric piano rather than organ.

Nice tune, good name too - reminds me of some other baroque pop sounding things like a Touch Of Velvet A Sting Of Brass and Many's The Slip Betwixt The Cup And The Lip.

I agree - "Don't Want To Cry" is not the usual Buckinghams output. I always think of the group

more in terms of "Kind Of A Drag", "Don't You Care", "Susan" etc.

Just as a side, and a piece of useless information: this group released a 2 sided Northern 45 'I've Been Hurt / Good Time Boy'. Now, the 'A' side is obviously the classic dancer also done by The Tams, Guy Darrell, Ray Whitley etc but the flip is the original recipe for Sharlene Spitteri & Texas' 'Black Eyed Boy'. I know Sharlene is a NS fan and she obviously has 'Good Time Boy' in her collection!

Great thread especially as Garage/Psych etc was a bit of a back door entry to Northern Soul for me. Here's a couple from an album entitled The British Psychedelic Trip 1965-1970 Vol 4. More blue eyed soulish than garage but worth a share methinks.😊

Was lucky to see Keb play in Todmoden last week and really enjoyed his performance both visually and musically, he went down a storm.

Lots of garage, In the main all new to me but a breath of fresh air.

This sounds pretty garage-y, probably mainly due to the appalling production (sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom), some of the instruments are indistinct too- is that a flute? Can't be sure. Great single though.

This was discussed on page 2 of this thread and I think the 'B' side 'Crying All Alone' was the preferred side? I like both sides anyway.

Maybe too slick to be tagged garage but it's got a psych garage vibe I think . Vocal flip great too imo

It's on Youtube anyway. Was there a particular track? The first Jimi Hendrix cover is quite nice a pretty soulful take on it.

The track is 19.35 on video... 'Nothing You Do', a dancer that could get spins on the Northern scene.
