Hiya...... I wrote a play entitled 'Time Will Pass You by'.

I originally wanted to gain Arts Council funding to produce it maybe as a radio play but after filling in countless forms etc it was deemed to have not fulfilled certain criteria which my small brain couldn't quite grasp !! (Maybe there weren't enough vegan Corbynistas included in the cast !)

My next idea was to submit to BBC Radio 4 play for today series but, again, I couldn't really see it being taken on, it is rather 'niche' and based on the typical working class lives of ordinary folk from Stoke-on-Trent in the mid 1970's so I didn't think the 'dahhh....lings' at the BBC would really like it, hence I'm just putting it out there for absolutely anyone who'd like a read it or to own a copy, send me your e-mail address and when I get a minute I'll e-mail it back to you. Maybe someone would like to 'take it on' and do something with it one day ? If so, you'd be very welcome.

Does it have to be a radio play?  Could it go on the stage?

Like Steve said , does it have to be a radio production ..

Stage could be an option and it’s been done before .

Crowdfunding may be an option or websites like Kickstart ..

I see what you mean Steve but I've kind of 'lost the momentum' now so just happy for people to have a read !

So, what happened was : I attended an Arts Council meeting where their C.E.O. categorically stated that they were no longer interested in funding JUST seasoned, experienced practitioners but that they, in fact, wanted to encourage new playwrights, film makers, dance groups etc to make an impact in places such as Stoke. (which he said he had always personally supported ??)

I thought I was onto a winner when I enlisted an ex-Coronation Street actress to 'mentor' my playwriting skills and sought consultancy help from a respected Northern Soul collector / D.J. (I shall keep both names confidential but many on here will possibly know both of them and certainly one of them !)

All that I needed to do now was complete a whole range of soddin' application forms and I assumed (wrongly) it would fly through the process. Well it didn't, the Arts Council used a couple of reasons, one being I hadn't made it clear who the specific target audience were. (even though I stated I was aiming the play to be of particular interest to the 30,000 members of the Northern Soul Facebook page ??) I'm a little disappointed from the angle that, politically, the Arts Council have always been, shall we say, left of centre but with the new breed of academics and intellectuals there, I question whether they can relate to anything 'working class' ?

When the bid failed I still received encouragement from my two mentors but I didn't want to over-rely on their goodwill so wrote the script solo last Summer. I'm now very happy for people to 'take a look' at it. Obviously, it's partly based on my personal recollections of the 'scene' mid to late 70's, Stoke Tiffs, the Casino and the Mecca but I do appreciate it won't be everybody's cup of tea !
Please e-mail me if you'd like a copy, K.T.F.
