The Chandlers/David Bowie

Recommended Posts

Here's another one that always reminds me of something else - The Chandlers; Your Love Makes Me Lonely and David Bowie; Golden Years, Bowie's was originally recorded when he was in his 'white soul' phase so he could well have been listening to them? Perhaps the guitar on some of the earlier live versions sounds more like it but surely the riff is similar?

Wasn't Luther involved in the arrangements on the Philadelphia sessions that became the Young Americans LP? More likely he would have heard the Chandlers track don't you think?

Ye he was also on the backing vocals on the Dick Cavett show

here he is Bowie lived in Philly for a while round about this time could not  help but  get involved in the thriving  soul scene, still one of his finest moments imho.

As a closet Bowie fan (who’s ‘waltzed’ many times on dancefloors to the Chandlers!), nope, never saw any similarity -until now.

He was close with Ava Cherry during his soul phase.  Did he ever come across this 45 to be influenced? - maybe she’d know.   (A litmus test would be to imagine Bowie covering this track, which wouldn’t work -it’s too pure!  He'd struggle to pull it off!  🙂

As an aside things sounding like other things...

there is a current ad running on tv with a dance music style beat.  But for the first couple of seconds it sounds as if Lou pride “coming home” is about to start.

the track goes off to be quite different but just for a second the drum beat sounds very similar.

anybody else noticed ?
