Some changes are coming to Mixcloud’s free playback experience. As a valued creator of the Mixcloud community, I'd like to personally notify you in advance about why we’re doing this.

We need to make some changes in order to keep running a legal platform in line with our licensing agreements, and a platform that is truly sustainable for the long term. Please read this open letter from myself and my co-founders to understand why and how these changes contribute to building a fair and sustainable streaming model that supports artists. I’ve summarized this for you below:

"The limitations on free will include the removal of rewind and a three-times-a-fortnight limit for listening to any one programme or mix. Programmes that feature more than four tracks from one artist or three tracks from one album won’t be available to free users at all."

A $7.99 a month premium subscription removes the limitations.  (Probably same in UK £, I haven't checked).

There is an option to subscribe to specific shows too at $2.99 a show (I do not believe the shows are paid but could be wrong - it goes to platform and copyright holders).

I listen to a maximum of 2-3 radioshows/postcasts a week.  It will be interesting to see how things evolve.  I will not need to pay for now but envisage further changes.  On top of other ways to enjoy music I pay for, I'm not sure it's worth me paying yet another subscription a month.

Thanks

Mark

be interesting seeing what the differences will be between uk and usa both terms and prices are

the usa copyright setup is different than the uk and have in the past seen similar services like 8-tracks almost cull the uk version due to the different requirements
