Motown Loves Northern Soul
Richard Searling highlights the foundations of Northern Soul and connections with Motown.

Hope it's great!

Ed

TBH Ed, I'd love to hear some of the less obvious pieces, similar to his "Motown Sound"  series of 7" boxes, here's hoping......but looking forward to it nonetheless.........

In Dickie we trust...

He has a story to tell, so it's likely to include chart and non chart.

The night?

Love machine?

Tell me it's just a rumour?

The anticipation..

Ed

If you fancy another listen here his my contribution to the celebrations, 60 (previously) unreleased gems.

I thought he came across well, in terms of a mainstream audience. But I've been listening to Richard on the radio for a long time. His genuine passion an knowledge puts, that dick, Charles, to shame, it's so obvious he's clueless and just chasing the cash.

really enjoyed Richard's show, made some nice observations and great choice of sounds imo, also reminded me of what a fine LP "From The Vaults" is on Natural Resources, US

I enjoyed it too. Some great choices.

Richard encompassed in one hour what Red Dwarf and Trevor Nelson failed to do in six hours. Still the criteria for their selection says it all "Top Motown 100 Streaming and Downloaded" a newcomer would think that Motown comprised of Lionel Richie, Diana Ross and Boyz to Men lol.

Strange that nowhere in any show was a mention of Motown's first big chart success Barrett Strong's 'Money'

Have to agree radio 2 dj's should have at least done a little more background research, Ken Bruce talking with Tito Jackson about how gladys Knight took them to motown then plays midnight train to Georgia. Oops buddah release from 1973 not motown Ken. Richards hour was by far the most informative. You'd have expected more from the BBC dj, s

But one of the three is from a different plant, a test press too

listening to it now. A really good show and well put out by Richard Searling. It's not everyday you hear the lesser known Motown tracks on national radio. Good stuff

Someone has one in a bank vault

Probably just a rumour unless its the recent test press. There is one in 5the Jobete offices as two sent to Motown, one for the labels vault and one for Jobete. The publishing arm, so I believe.

I don’t think the show was too predictable.  Maybe a lot of info the mainstream MOR audience care little about but there was some good choices by Richard.
