Great to see this clip! Here in the UK we were robbed of seeing so many US performers as a consequence of those Musician Union rules that restricted the number of performances on radio/TV in the UK by American artists. There was an agreed quota. Artists were also required to record a fresh backing track or perform with the live TOTPs band and the Ladybirds, the BBC's go to backing vocal group, in order to ensure UK musicians were kept in employment. Often bands or performers were in Europe or the UK but hamstrung by these rules and unable to perform on TOTPs that's why you would sometimes see the presented speak with them for a few seconds live in the studio between the performances by the acts booked to appear. There was a similar restriction on the number of videos that could be show in any one episode of TOTPs. It was all "Keep Music Live" The Musician's Union Motto. Luckily we now have YouTube and finally 40 odd years later we can finally see these great artists in their heyday!
