I guess that this show will be similar in style to the various Motown "tribute" shows that are on continual rotation throughout the UK. 

Just another sign that the over played side of Northern Soul has sufficient traction amongst the conscience of Radio Two music lovers.

Nevertheless the Cheltenham Town Hall does have a decent wooden floor or is it a sit down event?

There's a few video's of them about, not too bad.

30 years ago there was no such thing as a tribute band - they were pretty much invented in Australia, I think the first "big" ones were Bjorn Again (Abba tribute) or the Australian Doors Show in the late 80's? Within 5 years tributes were everywhere in the UK too loads and loads of them. In 1991 The Commitments film came out so that when everyone got tributed to death "covers" bands sprung up usually with a theme - Britpop, 60's, Motown, Soul, Ska and now Northern Soul. 

I don't find this kind of thing too offensive - it's keeping live music going, providing jobs for real musicians and the songwriters (in theory) should get performance royalties from the legitimate venues. What's not to like?
