The excellent Robert Cray. Veers between blues and soul but whatever he does, he is always class....

This might cheer you up. Brilliant reworking of a U2 song.

PostmodernJukebox is a great channel with loads of quirky, likeable cover versions.

Wow...just had the pleasure of running through this thread. Some cracking tunes and the majority new to me.

My contribution originates from a tape I had around 76 on a track that was a mecca play, but I've never heard it out. Enjoy

I remember a track was played religiously at Mexbrough reform club (brickyard) around 76 but cant remember the name.

Thanks for reminding me the LP is on the shelf somewhere, hasn't been played for ages, might transfer to PC later, as slowly working through LPs uploading them.

Totally new to me and love it.  Can see why this was a Mecca play as can easily see me having danced to this at a Northern or Jazz Funk do.  It reminds me of I Hate Hate but with a summery backdrop.

Although I went to the Mecca a few times it was after the main thrust had taken place.

However a mate of mine had an older brother who was there during its heyday and bought records such as this.

Around 76 I was given a tape of the best ones and it was priceless. Mandrill, Heartstoppers, Claude baby Huey, Marvin Sease, Jimmy Thompson, etc. I managed to buy a lot of them over the next couple of years as the older brother had thrown in the towel.

This was my favourite below....and has since been revived...but at the time I'm sure ONLY the Mecca crowd were listening to gems like this.
