Just started  watching last nights episode of Cold Feet and couldn’t believe my ears , the opening tune was P. P. Arnold, Everything’ Gonna be Alright

Yes, saw that as well but judging by the lack of response on here I guess we all are so used to hearing such records on the media that it's not as special anymore.

Was going to mention The Great Pottery Throw Down on C4 had Tainted Love, Cool Jerk and I've Only Got Myself To Blame within half an hour, but so what.

The Great Pottery Throw Down thing seems to be used exactly the same music, same tracks even as last year, now it is on C4 not BBC.

The first episode was The Creation, The Action and mid-sixities British early rock. Second one as you saw, was more Soul music.

Credits of Cold Feet refer to the Northern Soul Adviser as Pottsy from Aycliffe, great choice for opening episode, but the intro to Frank Wilson was a bit predictable (Strictlyesque!) and the pumped up happy family scene gross!  All in all the exposures great, especially the likes of For the Love of Dogs where I note some tunes underpinning the visuals

He is a long time broadcaster, producer and many other things on radio. He works closely with Richard Searling and Kev Roberts. 

I have know John for nearly 50 years and know him as "Pottsy", as he is known to all his friends in the Newton Aycliffe area (were he is from originally). We all think his credit on the titles of Cold Feet is funny as f.!

Not sure what you mean about not being special,,, pp Arnold ,,, Gloria jones for me are 2 of the most iconic records that were played at Wigan and are still standouts and not played out anywhere near enough ,,regards Stephen

Stephen, I wasn't commenting on the records but on the fact that northern soul is now used on the TV , radio and other media so much that it's use on Cold Feet is just another regrettable appropriation of our music by the mass media. I wish they'd leave it alone. Rick

Sorry rick ,, once the TV was allowed in the casino it went a bit pear shaped,, not a good idea ,, and then the worst time of all ( STAFFORD) god awful,, that is when some people discovered TV ,, god bless Stephen

Seems to me that issues like this are viewed in different ways by different people. 

Mostly it seems that people who are relatively new to the "Scene" don't have issues with the music used in TV Programs and TV Commercials and are quite surprised by it where as people like myself who have been into Soul Music since the mid 60s long before it became the 'Northern Scene' aren't.

You have to remember it WAS an 'Underground Scene' Born without all the Publicity and in the beginning Created in the main by 'Word and Mouth, when the TV Cameras were allowed into the Casino it was seen as an Intrusion by the Faithful and we were more than aware what would follow, Site seers and divs dancing (i use that term loosely) with drinks in their hands and a fag hanging out of their gob on the dance floor, not a great site, view it in a different way, sad as it is over the years the damage has been done, it is irreversible and sadly something we now have to live with it, like it or not..................
