This is the tale of how two young guys that started a fan club which would eventually change the sound of music in Britain forever. From a small bed room in Kent Clive Stone and Dave Godin set out to bring the Sound of Motown to the attention of the UK. Encouraged by Motown’s Berry Gordy, Dave ran the influential Tamla Motown Appreciation Society and brought musicians overseas. The autumn of 1964 saw many fabulous Motown acts visit Britain for the first time - The Supremes, Kim Weston, Marvin Gaye, Earl Van Dyke and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. With encouragement from Motown, the fan club were invited to informal meet-and-greets with stars for their members, a process which eventually culminated in a growing national enthusiasm for Motown and birth of the UK Tamla Motown label and the famous Motown Revue touring Britain. The story is told alongside rediscovered photographs (many previously unpublished) and memorabilia from Clive Stone and other Tamla Motown and R&B devotees (large paperback, new). Follow link below
