Sold Atlanta Dancer

Back to the southern states again, and another floor filler attributed to the irrepressible Guy Hennigan.

Jimmy Church – Thinking about the good times – Peachtree 101 Ex £1250 SOLD

Jimmy Church, a native of Nashville, enjoyed and still does a career that boasts close relationships with some very popular names on the 60s US Soul scene, Bobby Hebb, Johnny Otis and Johnny Jones (& King Casuals), Frank Howard (& Commanders) and not least the emerging master guitarist Jimi Hendrix.  Jimmy’s solo recording career spanned many years and at least the Hickory, Okeh, Southern Artists, Sound Stage 7 and Peachtree labels.  He was a regular artist appearing on the mid 60s TV show “The Beat”, which provided yet another platform for him to show off his talents.

Stax label icon William Bell set up this Atlanta based Peachtree label in 68-69 to provide support acts to a group of already nationally acclaimed artists including the likes of Jackie Wilson, Barbara Mason and the Impressions.  Some 50 years on these so-called Peachtree support acts now find themselves eclipsing their higher ranking 60s contemporaries on all counts.  Not only known for Jimmy Church’s wonderful up-tempo dancer, a run down of the labels catalogue is like a who’s who of Northern rarities that collectors and disc jockey’s are still trying to track down in any number since the first discoveries.  Eddie Billups – Ask my heart, Gorgeous George – It’s not a hurting thing, Emory & Dynamics – Let’s take a look at our life, James Fountain – Seven day lover, 4 Dynamics – Things that a lady ain’t supposed to do – Wow!  They all bring varying degrees of rarity and carry that subtle Georgia music way of reaching back into its blues, jazz and R&B origins.

With Jimmy’s “Hurt” on Okeh, “Right on time” on SS7 or Southern Artists (if you can find one) making waves on the scene at some time, he did leave his best to last, this inaugural release on Peachtree.  Overall the 45 comes out at Excellent visually with just some light lines on the vinyl, with labels displaying some signs of light use.
