I know is a great album but it’s not even my top Marvin Gaye album to be honest.

My favourite is his double LP “Here My Dear “ written while his marriage was collapsing .... and you can hear the pain in every track . 

But this is one of my prize possessions , signed by the great man himself

It has always been in my top 5 and is still as relevant today as it was when released.  The first time I ever heard WGO in 71 (aged 12) was whilst looking for a pair of shoes in a  branch of Ravels on Oxford St, somewhere in London for those of you from the frozen north (I'm ducking at this point).  I refused to leave the shop much to my parents annoyance, until it finished!! 

Just worked my way through the 500, surprised myself as I have 63 of them.  Also a large number I have never heard, some of which I have never heard of.  

I have had or still got 181 of them but most I'm not bothered about anymore. Some were albums of the moment that didn't last to me, or had one or two great songs. Some albums also reflect a point in your life and fade away. As always a lot to quibble about and a very USA centric view - but still some fun to look through and wonder what will still be there when it is done in a decade.  I too wouldn't say WGO is the best ever or even Marvin's most enjoyable, perhaps the most important but not one I feel compelled to return to constantly.

Have the album for donkeys years but not my favourite album, prefer from the vaults of Motown,  but each to their own.  Although hes my favourite male vocalist alongside jackie wilson.

Ah Jackie Wilson. I agree. I was outraged he wasn't even mentioned in that recent 3 part BBC series on Soul Music.
