Popular Post Kev Cane Posted October 13, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted October 13, 2020 People are always displaying their astonishment at the prices the auctions are fetching, nothing has surprised or astounded me with what is being paid for the last few years, the landscape has totally changed, the "going rate" no longer applies, and hasn't for a while, same as the term "books for" as with everything, supply and demand, these items aren't 20 years old anymore, more like 40 or 50+ years old, most stuff is auction, or private transaction through social media, Popsike isn't a reliable performance indicator either as only auction sales apply, it's down to how much somebody desires a record, and how much they're willing to pay, the term "make me an offer I can't refuse" comes to mind in a lot of cases Kev 7 Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

Souljazera Posted October 13, 2020 Share Posted October 13, 2020 I will have to dig my copy out now...I agree that prices seem to have risen significantly over the last few years for all records ...however I don't see the market being maintained ....with possibly 5-10 years left before it collapses ...I see that all the big dealers are happy to auction records that they have stored & squirrelled away over the years... So someone snagged a bargain here. Compared to the few on Popsike, this copy of the Tomangoe’s was vastly superior. My bid was ahead for a few days then wiped out by a couple of major players. Bidders with four and five figure feedback stats are big collectors or dealers and massive buyers. This is a real connoisseur’s record - a real growler that fits the template to near perfection. I'm not sure how many price crashes there have been since lets say 1977 but I do remember the one in the early 80s when top 500 rarities halved in price. A mate of mine let his collection go for peanuts really. Everybody who sold up would have kicked themselves a few years later.
