There's not just 'one' though Steve is there?

The sheer volume of class records broken and played at Clifton Hall was Breathtaking... and the playlist pretty much fed the rest of the Northern 'AND' modern scenes for the entire decade.

Sean

Decade?still is;ty karim,jan jones,charles johnson,tyrone barkley,etc etc,all still getting plays.

any more 60s tracks that were big/broke at Clifton Hall.... all seems to be 70s/80s from the soundfiles (bar the odd one)

Suprised nobodys put any up yet Joe.

Thought we might have seen some of the stuff Gary Rushbrooke & Pat Brady used to play.

Good thread!

Sean - you've mentioned before on here "Did CH ever really exist"? I can't believe that not that many people appear to recall - it was absolutely awesome! Fantastic music - DJ's, spine chilling atmosphere, packed to the rafters with (mainly) lovely people. Wonderful times. We used to head up to Rotherham and meet everyone in the Charters Arms hostelry - I think it was the Charters Arms. We'd always stop at a small chippie at Tickhill - they did some reet good Yorkshire Fish Cakes.

Seems like I'm a bit late with recalling some of the tracks - and I've not read all of the threads, and I'm crap anyway cos I spent all my time on the dancefloor - fit as a butchers dog, I'm now fat as a...........!

Anyway I know DayBreak was already big at Wigan - but still a big CH tune for me, Pretenders - Just Be Yourself, and what was that track Don't Play your Games - was that a Poke tune or did you spin it Sean?

So did I and I've had no luck trying to get another either

Plenty of the boots around Steve only reason i have mine is cause i could never sell it,another record that suffered at the hands of the booters, and if i could it probberly woudnt make its true worth, when i find it i`ll post it up.

Hi Pete,

I must admit... it was me  .

Poke never had it.

It was a Steve Croft reccomendation and I played it at Clifton Hall.

Later, at Cleethorpes, both Steve and I played it along with some of the other lads.

Not my fave record, but it seemed so right at the time.

It was always quite rare, even then, 25 years ago, so gawd knows how difficult it would be to pick one up nowadays.

Am more attached to (and content with) more of the other tracks I played... much than Annis, to be honest.

But it was fun, nontheless!

Tickhill Chips and a cake. Charter Arms. Followed by Clifton Hall.

Sounds like heaven!

Nice one. Good funky "modern soul" just as I remembered. Don't see it for sale very often.

Sean comprehensive list has got my brain into gear.

Al Johnson "It's not too late", don't think this has been mentioned. Played by Poke?

Patches "I'm gonna make this world a better place"

"Am I grooving you" can't remember who sang it due to hangover.

"A little extra stroke" George Jackson?

Regards

Alan

BTW

You coming to Rotherham tomorrow night?

Simon's just posted an ever longer list, some corkers on this. Although I'm not entirely convinced that there all bone fide CH spins. Can't remember Anorld Blair being played and a few fall into Cleethorpes mark 2/Bradford category or maybe not, I'm getting confused. The passage of time and all that.

Charles Sherrel was massive. Not heard this in years.

Esquires "what good is music" Its a bit pony.

Charles Mann "Sho nuff no funky stuff"

Prince Phillip Mitchell "one on one"

Laura Lee's version of "Your song"

Frankie Saunders "take another look"

Cognac "How high" spin for Crofty?

Rufus and Chaka "Any love" I'm sure that was massive or was it at Bradford.

Back to the 60s

Trade Martin "you know what I like" Big for Richard.

As was The Q "thats the way its gonna be".

My favourite is Jimmy Bo Horne's "If you want my love" can't remember the cover up name but was massive. I did hear that Colin Curtis had played it a few times at Blackpool back in the day. A stunning record that I never got fed up of hearing.

I feel that I should go tomorrow but I'm not. Still recovering from my gig last night. No doubt see you at Tats 50th.

Alan

Okay been trying to get to this one, not sure it was the best all nighter ever but it was one of them, probably one I grew up at more and one started to find new friends from South of border and travelling regularly, for me Gary R was still king but it certainly opened my eyes to soul of all eras (mind you only 3 decades around then, so easier to call 70's/80's modern  ) Used to travel regularly on my own, went to a pub before it, cant remember the name but remember the outside loos with eye level windows!! Scary looking people till I realised that most of them were going to nighter after, horrrendous train journey from Edinburgh (via Manchester seem to remember) and as bad back, but that was all the fun!! Great crowd, Morecambe crowd becoming my buddies, first sight of that crab dance style that Mr Banks has now made his own. About the 60's as am struggling to remember many other than those posted so dug around, sure may get shot down but did Dave Withers not DJ at early ones, hope so as first 2 are via him, tried to find a few not mentioned yet.

Happy days, so head above the parapet with the first couple

Pierre Hunt "the thought of loving you"

George Blackwell "Time will tell" aka Raymond Tucker "I tried to make you love me" a bit Elvis but thats never put me off.

Back to Bob Dylan on radio 6. He played Laura Lee "Wedlock is a padlock" now that is a good record.

Regards

Alan

Information on this pleassssssssse, went to CH but was not what you would call a regular, must have missed this ????. Lurve this too.

Russ

Last time I saw it was 20 years ago when Richard Broughton had it, so apologies if mistaken, but I remember it as a 10" HDH studio acetate of an unrelease track. I can't remember if it was credited to Richie Parker on it's label.
