Aaaaah ... is right. That's right, I mean, it only came out on CD - I used to have it. Very well looked after.
What a pity. LP would be super interesting, but even better than 45.

Come on grandad, get with the program.😆 You could put, ghost in my house, and all the bobby bland stuff on if you applied that to this thread. There's a fair few classics that were originally spun from LP's that have been subsuently pressed on 45. Otis's- loving by the pound, Charlie rich ect

Sonny Jim I had no idea that this had come out as a 45 , why would I when I own the LP ?

Listen young man , how can anyone keep up with the number of limited edition pressings of these and other tracks.?

Does this mean that Alice Clark, Barbara Lewis,  the Tempests "Someday" and the various  Capitol and Motown Box Set 45's etc culled from LP's  mean they wouldn't be a fit here ?

I give up. 🙂 I'm woked up

So a 45 that's never been issued before is a 'reissue' and 'LP only' means 'first released on LP'.🤔

Ok. You live and learn. Obvious really!👍

I didn't mean to get into pedant's corner with this one, I was just jibing my ancient brother, Mick. 😁.

Its an interesting sub topic, classics originally played from albums. Isn't there some Motown cuts had there first plays off mfp LP's? Anything else? That Wigan instrumental, supertime?

many thanks for that post. Teddy Randazzo was a brilliant arranger for beat ballads. I'm a big fan of his work.

Revisiting The Temptations, Gotta Find A Way (to get you back) , now know of at least 3 Motown album releases, but can't find any info on a legit 45 ? And 2 of them are greatest hits albeit 1 a compilation doesn't make any sense

No expert but I'm not aware of any 45. The Track was originally from the Cloud Nine LP , also on 16 Big Hits and the Temptations "Motown Special" and 16 Big Hits Vol 7 , which are what you are referring to no doubt.

Great tune.

Yes Mick, but how did a 60s ,,,circa 66track end up on Cloud Nine,,, then 16 Big Hits,,, Temps Motown Special,  various CDs and still avoid being released on a 45 , where was it a big hit in the first place to warrant being included on volume 7 big hits, Great tune

According to the Don't Forget The Motor City web site, "I Gotta Find A Way" was completed in Sept, 1968, the Cloud Nine album came out in Feb. 69 so that makes sense. Why it kept popping up on various comps is a mystery to me also.

There's a lot of unreleased Mickey Stevenson -produced stuff emerging at the moment.  Here's one that did come out on his 'Here I Am' LP (possibly UK only on vinyl, it appears to have only come out on cassette in the US).

I enjoyed this version but IMO the arrangement is a tad tame when compared to Motown.

From his 1966 Soul Galore LP and IMOP a significant omission from the 2020 "unreleased" box set of 45's , most of which, if not all , are to the best of my knowledge are album tracks.

The propensity for Latin instrumentals to cross over has muddied the Northern Scene.

Although it has it's place, personally I don't have the patience for it.

Not Northern Soul for me, sorry.

Could not agree more Mick (stolen from other scenes)

Some of them are soon to be in Kev Roberts Top 500 "Northern Soul Records", except of course there are very few "Northern Soul" actual records (some where made for the Northern Soul Scene) but most should Never Ever be called "Northern Soul" records.

It's like calling your Dyson a "Hoover"

Spanish maiden with Tony Middleton was off this original lp

This is so lovely - so soulful and only available on the 60s speed lp

Everyone's opinion of what quality vintage soul is in 2021 is still subjective.

I suppose its the difference between a NS collector or DJs focused on their interpretation of what they perceives northern soul to be.

I personally love 60s Jazz, R&B, Latin Soul, Funk and 60s Rhythm n Soul

I have never tried to define Northern Soul.

I just thought it was a phrase for records that had become popular on the NS scene.

With a collectors scene as old and diverse as this one its inevitable that there are parts of it of it you do not particularly enjoy.

But if a record from a label like fania gets massive on the NS scene, then that 45 will be forever known for that NS exposure and huge popularity.

Factor in that obscure fania 45 is probably now worth over a grand!

Well it wasn't boogaloo collectors like me that made that happen :)

It was the NS Scene

Thanks

Gaz
