Had the below sent in

Anyone help, guess need to bear in mind, the years when a dj and it's a humanist funeral
Am sure any suggestions be appreciated

Hi, I'm looking for some help with music for a male funeral. My uncle was a DJ in the late 60's early 70's playing all soul/northen soul, & has suddenly passed away aged (a young 84 ). He was so much into his music & wants a Humanist funeral. So I would be very pleased if anyone can come up with any ideas of music going into the crematorium & exiting.

Many Thanks.

As @Kevinkent say's, it's difficult without knowing the guy. Also, it's easy to get a bit too miserable.  Based on the chap's age, some Motown/Stax/Atlantic stuff may fit the bill. Perhaps..

One I've got planned is The Artistics - I'm Gonna Miss You , makes me fill up every time to be honest 👍

This is a difficult one without knowing the person or his circumstances/family ties etc.  Because our music often deals with relationships and issues of the heart that which at first seems suitable can end up being the opposite simply down to a single line. Sometimes it's just best to ignore the detail and go for the general message. I say this as it's a subject I have been mulling over for my own funeral. My current options would include:

The Ultimations........Would I Do It Over

Johnnie Mae Matthews.......I Have No Choice

Joe Walker.........This Is My Last Goodbye

And if all else fails, Nellie The Elephant, because I will have packed my trunk and said goodbye to the circus.

Good Luck. Sorry I'm useless at posting up YouTube clips

Perhaps...

Jimmy Ruffin - What becomes of the broken heated.

Otis Redding - Sitting on the dock of the bay

Otis Redding - These arms of mine

Certainly loads of Motown would be familiar to the non-soul folks

People Get Ready would be my recommendation - sort of feels like hymn as well.  That's what I will be going out to.

I was not sure about this so:

A humanist funeral is a non-religious ceremony that focuses on the life the person has led, rather than a particular faith they may have had. Humanist funerals follow a similar structure as a religious funeral, with readings, music and eulogies, but without the mention of a God or faith.

84 years old, loved the music, and was lucky enough to dj.

Loved by his family.

Some of the greatest records were the early ones. All things considered, I'd recommend:

Entrance

Bobby Womack - Give It Up

or

Jerry Butler - I Cant Stand To See You Cry

Leaving

Eddie Floyd - That's All

or

Nat King Cole - Smile
