Modern Soul & Two Step 45’s


Cuisine - High on you / Put your body in it - AJC Quatom / VG / £900 (Very rare and very very good Las Vegas release. Super soulful two step with heavy vocoder boogie on the flip. Visually strong VG with a few marks and scuffs, plays more or less clean. Please refer to soundfile taken from the copy for sale. Previously my personal copy, just minted up.)



Chain Reaction - Search for tomorrow / Say yeah - Blue Wave / EX / £800 (One of the best modern soul dancers out there, pure dancefloor bliss. Flip is a funky disco master piece.)




Sam Laster – I still love ya / Writing you a letter – Laster Sound’s / EX / £700 (Super rare Oklahoma modern soul 45 with a lovely falsetto lead. One side a great dancer with a killer break, flipside is a real good slowie. As new copy but the label unfortunately received the Soul Bowl treatment, that is has the address scratched out.)



Ultra - Never ever - Bookshop / EX / £200 (Killer midtempo modern soul. On a not ultra but very rare 1989 Canada release. Label has date rubber stamp plus stain from removed sticker.)



Shadow – Freedom street – SR / EX / £90 (Aka Winston Bailey. Charming, quirky 1981 Trinidad dancer on a very rare 45. The 12 inch is rare, no entries of the 45 online, clip from the actual 45 for sale. Comes in distribution sleeve, label has stamp and small writing.)



Ike Noble - I promise you / Everybody get up and boogie on down - Connowil / EX / £75 (Nice slowie backed with storming dancer.)




Darrow Fletcher - No limit - Kent Select / EX / £70 (Superb, previously unissued version. 2012 release which is now highly sought after. Flip is his NS classic “What good am I without you”.)



Seville - Show me the way / One down and you to go - Federal Green / EX / £60 (2019 release with alternative versions to the previously issued ones. Press limited to 500 copies.)




Joe Bataan – Aftershower funk – Mericana / VG+ / £50 (Great funky instrumental. Writer credit name has been corrected with ball point pen. Has a hint of hiss in the intro.)




Morris - Can we melt the ice / Extended vers - Traveller / EX / £20 (2015 reissue with original version and a previously unissued extended version on the flip.)



Evie Sands - You sho’ look good to me - Rca / EX / £12 (Promo copy, sultry two step vibes and a highly recommended 45.)



McArthur - It’s so real - Soul Junction / EX / £10 (2016 reissue of this super scarce modern soul beauty.) 



Grey & Hanks - How can you live without love - Rca / EX / £6 (Superb 2 step, killer version.)



Nature’s Divine - I just can’t control myself / Love is you - Infinity / EX / £6 (Two step classic, Michael Stokes magic with a superb rare groove bonus flip.)




A Taste Of Honey - I love you - Capitol / EX / £5 (Classic rare groove, Mizell Bros magic.)



Northern Soul, Crossover & Funky 45’s


Friday, Saturday & Sunday - There must be something / Potato sallad - Dig / EX / £400 (Killer! Super soulful midtempo that fits both on the dancefloor and in a ballad set. Flip is, despite the title, a really good xover dancer. Black/orange first press without Stax distribution.)




Vernon Greene - Look at me, look at me - Minit / EX / £225 (Rare issue copy, superb midtempo NS dancer.)




Joe Hinton - Don’t tell her the truth - Dunhill/Abc/Goldies 45 / EX / £185 (Superb beat ballad styled dancer. Previously unissued 60’s recording first released here on this1970’s Goldies series 45. BB hole through label.)



Sam & Bill - I’ll try / I feel like cryin’ - Decca / EX / £70 (Superb, classic NS dancer b/w deep soul. Very clean pink promo copy.)




Brother to Brother – I gotta situation – Win or Lose / EX / £70 (Very rare issue only cut, a nice 1972 Poindexter Brothers production.)



Unknown Artist – Suddenly / Just another – Preservation Project / NM/NM / £50 (Two great sides, crossover and a ballad. 2021 release of previously unissued sides. Limited press that sold out within a few days.)



Jo Armstead - A stone good lover / The urge keeps coming (Dance, dance, dance) - Giant / EX / £35 (Lovely clean copy of this Chicago mid temp pearl. Storming NS instrumental on the flip.)




Nina Simone - It be’s that way sometime - Rca / EX / £20 (Superb NS styled dancer. Very clean stock copy complete with company sleeve.)

Professionals - My heart belongs to you - Action Pac / VG+ / £350 (Superb and very soulful group cut.)



Willie Walker - Two paces ahead of love / Barbara & the Browns - It hurts me so much - Diggin’ Deep / NM / £150 (Two superb sides, first time one vinyl here was only available on Kent compilations CDs previous to this. Limited press, heavily indemand, out of print since released and now sold for high prices.)




Third Creation - Master Series 2 - Preservation Project / NM/NM / £70 (With a superb version of the Fuzz “Leave it all behind”, salvaged from an acetate and released in 300 copies. Flip, “Down by the river” is truly beautiful as well.)




Soul Crusaders - I sit in my room - LuTall / EX / £45 (Superb and classic lowrider styled ballad.)



Bodacious – (Will you) Groove with me / For the rest of my life – Super Nova / EX / £30 (Great ballad backed with nice funky disco.)

Blair – Nightlife – Solar Sound / S/S / £200 (Classic! Still sealed but has a bent corner and some and some spores that can easily be viped away after opening it. Down to a handful copies now.)




C.S. Lewis - Are you leaving - Mellow Motion / EX / £50 (Superb UK street soul cut.)



Jesse Henderson - I did it again / Long version - Lasso / EX / £40 (Such a tune, same song as Bobby Cutchins but much better IMO.)



NYCC - EP - Rca / EX / £35 (EP with four superb disco gospel tracks, “Make every day count” is my pick . White demo, with company sleeve.)






Freedom - Get up and dance - T.K. Disco / EX / £18 (The ultimate party track?)



Fat Larry’s Band - Act like you know - Wmot / EX / £15 (Party classic, sharing bass line with Whatnauts “Help is on the way”.)



Esther Williams - I’ll be your pleasure - Rca / VG / £8 (White demo of this disco classic, comes in generic sleeve. Vinyl is scuffy but plays well.)



Damaris - What about my love - Columbia / EX / £8 (Superb disco soul take on the Johnny Taylor song.)

Majestic Arrows - The magic of - Bandit / EX/EX £225 (Rare Chicago album with “Another day” and the album only “I'll never cry for another boy”. Super clean copy, cover still in shrink.)




Gilberto Cruz - Chanchullo - Tico / EX/EX / £100 (With “Baby baby”, superb lowrider type of Chicano soul. As new mono copy with sleeve still in shrink, only flaw is a neat cut out hole.)



World Famous Mad Lads - Music for lovers - Express / EX/EX / £100 (As new copy, with dancers “You blew it”, “I think I am falling” plus a nice cover of Denise LaSalles “Trying to forget about you”.)
