Ratt
Yea, 1975 my first year. And I was consumed/blown away by the amphet and the scene. And right from the start I could never get to grips with friends and acquaintances who bent my ear on a protracted verbal about how the times were actually in decline.......thought how the fck can this be on the way down. But over the years I think I have understood their comments more and more. Of course the casino is the prime example, because within just two or three years many of the original fans had given up on the place completely. I stuck with it till the final death, but if I am honest, I would say that I wish I hadn't gone to the last two nights. 2 Link to comment Social source share

Is it a good read Ken and does gives a realistic impression what was happening in the year in question and maybe things to come . I am a avid reader of soul related books but this one has a small time frame and at £30 do not want to be disappointed there is loads of books out of here I could purchase but if this one is recommended by someone who has read it a purchase will be forthcoming . 1 Link to comment Social source share

Well, i'm not even 1/4 way through it...but i think it's worth every penny. Just to see Martin Buchan (photo) in one of the collages was worth it to bring back memories . In my view, it does give a good & fair impression of the scene/it's music/ and the general happening of 1975. Link to comment Social source share

Thanks for the reply , would you please give a update when you have read the book so I can make a informed decision whether or not to purchase . I have bought numerous books that set out on a good route but then seem to meander and run out of steam. I would much appreciate your or anyone else who reads the book to give a opinion on the book , hopefully it will be worth a purchase . Link to comment Social source share

Chapelisland
I'm at a slight disadvantage here as i haven't read the book. Tim has great knowlede and posesses literary talent. However if he s suggesting that in 1975 60's soul started to mix with 70s soul he is two years out. This was happening at Blackpool Mecca in late 72 and throughout 73 where 60's, and rare and just released 70's soul was played every week to an appreceiated audience. 2 Link to comment Social source share
Popular Post Agentsmith
I honestly dont think there us anyone alive with even the remotest notion of compiling such a thoroughly documented book, dedicated to a single year at the casino. As regards the 7 other years, thats been covered in his previous hardback print, The Wigan Casino Years. Tim attended the very first all nighter on September 23rd 1973, 48 years down the line, i wonder how many of the 700+ who attened alongside him, can remember that event, who are still alive?. Tim is old enough, thats all that needs to be known. The book would be of importance if it wasnt worth buying, writing a book of this nature in such as short space of time demands an accumulative mind of an extraordinary genius. As of today, Tim is the only person to have compiled two literary publications on the subject that are not viewed as personal journeys, but overviews of exactly how it was, what was played when, by whom and how the scene, and in particular the Casino, as the flagship, gained notoriety on an international stage. 6 Link to comment Social source share
