JOHN GARY WILLIAMS: The Whole Damn World Is Going Crazy * STAX, VG++, 75.- Euro, sold

A record everybody can relate to in these crazy times and a soulful 70's masterpiece, that simply works from bar one to the fade-out. A shiny clean copy with only the faintest surface blemishes, that do not affect the superb playback at all.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/johngarywilliamsthewholle.mp3

LEE McDONALD: Gotta Get Home / Show Me * DEBBIE, M-, 75.- Euro

Outstanding Modern Soul stepper from 1979. Top side is on the rare LP by Lee McDonald as well, but the 7" provides a different mix compared to the LP-take. Flip it over for a beautiful slow jam.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/leemcdonaldgottaget.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/leemcdonaldshow.mp3

BIG MAYBELLE: Quittin' Time / I Can't Wait Any Longer * ROJAC, VG, small edge chip, dnap, 75.- Euro

Hard hitting uptempo R&B soul by Big Maybelle, that never fails to get the dancers up. Flip it over for a super soulful midtempo side. This copy has numerous marks on either side, but plays like a champ.

Unknown, charming 60's dancer with some Northern appeal. The rceord has a discogs entry, but no copies are on offer or have been ever sold on ebay or discogs, so I assume it's rare. The vinyl has a larger visible mark on the uptempo side, but plays without any issues; soundquality is ex!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jimmydewsareyou.mp3

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/kingcolemanfreedom.mp3

ROY HYTOWER: I Want Some More * AVIN, M-, 35.- Euro

A vocal tour-de-force by Roy Hytower accompanied by a band on fire. Great and underappreciated R&B fueled dancer, that a few Euro DJs picked up before covid hit the world.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/royhytoweriwantso.mp3

LEE HARVEY: Prove It / Only True Love * JGEMS, VG to VG+, wol, 30.- Euro, sold

Two excellent westcoast 60's sides. "Prove It" is a nice, sparse dancer, flip it over for an overlooked soulful midtempo gem. Light marks on vinyl, plays great!

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/leeharveyprooveit.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/leeharveyonlyytruelove.mp3

THE INTRIGUES: I'm Gonna Love You * YEW, VG++, 30.- Euro, sold

The second 45 by the Intrigues on Yew records out of New York, after the big success they had with "In A Moment". And this one is way better and as it went nowhere on the charts, way harder to find as well.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/nfporterkeep.mp3

DAVID MORRIS: Snap Crackle Pop * PLUSH, M-, 25.- Euro

HEARTS OF STONE: If I Could Give You The World * V.I.P., VG+, drill hole in lbl, 25.- Euro, sold

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/lovelitesyoubetter.mp3

THE GASLIGHT: I Can Tell A Lie / Here's Missing You * GRAND JUNCTION, VG+/VG, 25.- Euro

Totally great Detroit sweet soul two sider on Marvin Figgins Grand Junction label. This is the same group as Butch & The Newports, who had a collectable record on Black Rock records. Most prominent member of the Gaslight was Oliver Cheatham, who later scored a world wide hit with "Get Down Saturday Night".

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/gaslighticantellalie.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/mariegladnessimanxious.mp3

SAM DEES: I'm So Very Glad / Just Out Of My Reach * ATLANTIC, M-, 20.- Euro, sold

"I'm So Glad" is an underrated dancer from the man. It was recorded during the "Show Must Go On"-sessions and didn't found it's way onto the legendary LP. Needless to say, that "Just Out Of My Reach" is a deep soul ballad of immense proportions.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/samdeesimsoglad1.mp3

EDDY GILES: Losin' Boy * MURCO, M-/VG+, some label damage, 20.- Euro, sold

Excellent midtempo soul from 1967, recorded in Tyler/Texas, just across the border to Louisiana. "Losin' Boy" was Eddy Giles first secular record and it sold well down south for an independent release. Nor surprise as it's a distinctive, catchy song with Eddy in top form. Extra clean copy on the "Losin Boy"-side, flipside has mild marks, but plkays clean.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/eddygileslsoingboy.mp3

Recorded in Jackson Mississipi's Malaco studios and released on GSF records, one of my favourite 70's soul labels. Superb Modern Soul with a catchy melody, a fine beat and extraordinary soulful vocals. What more do you need?

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/billyceedontmattertome.mp3

CHARMELS: Lovin' Feeling * VOLT, promo, VG+, 20.- Euro, sold

Isaac Hayer and David Porter produced cover of the Righteous Brothers smash "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling". The Charmels emerged from The Dixiebelles, who recorded a number of good 45s on Sound Stage 7 and Monument.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/charmelslovvinfeelin.mp3

LEE DORSEY: Vista Vista * AMY, VG++, drill hole in lbl, 20.- Euro, sold

Nola legend Lee Dorsey with his only record with Northern appeal. Actually a great action packed dancer with some milleage in the grooves.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/leedorrseyvista.mp3

CHRIS CLARK: I Love You * V.I.P., VG+, drill hole in lbl, 20.- Euro

1967 Marvin Gaye production for the talented Chris Clark. This is a great dancer and an underrated disc on the extensive Motown catalogue. Listen carefully, Marvin is on background vocals here as well or is my mind playing tricks on me?

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/chrisclarliloveyou.mp3

THE IMAGINATIONS: I Love You More (Than Anyone) * BACON FAT, VG++, almost M-, 20.- Euro

Excellent midtempo group soul shuffler with a small combo arrangement; just drums bass, guitar and the mindblowing harmonies of The Imaginations. I'm sure these guys where big fans of the Impressions.

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/twotonsofloveitsabad.mp3

THE MASQUERADERS: I Ain't Gonna Stop / I'm Just An Average Guy * AGP, VG+, 20.- Euro, on hold

Two truly amzing sides by maybe the longest exsiting group of all time; they are still around and know how to mesmerize an audience. This record was recorded in Memphis on Chip Moman's AGP output in 1968 and no matter what side youn put the needle on, you get phenomenal group soul from the top shelf.

Funky edged late 60'Äs soul from the vaults of Memphis incomparable Stax records.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/stingersdothe.mp3

GLORIA TAYLOR: Grounded * SILVER FOX, M-, 15.- Euro, sold

Banging funky soul by Gloria Taylor, who had a number of great records including her now indemand 70's outings on Selector Sound. "Grounded" is the same song as Belita Woods indemand Moira recording, but Gloria's version is a bit more edgy to my ears and if this isn't enough, it's also 10 times cheaper.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/gloriataylorgrounded.mp3

THE MALIBUS: Two At A Time / I Had A Dream * SURE-SHOT, VG+, 20.- Euro

Two great 60's group soul sides back to back on one of Don Robey's legendary Texas labels. Don Robey was a notorious gangster, who used his labels to white wash his funny money and even though he got writing credits on almost every record he released (and he released plenty), he wasn't able to play an instrument or read music.
