Magpie69 Posted Wednesday at 15:59 Share Posted Wednesday at 15:59 Anyone been brave enough to play out any of the Jaded Hearts covers of classics at a soul do? (Got my crash helmet on!) Link to comment Social source share

Tricky Posted Friday at 21:07 Share Posted Friday at 21:07 WTF! I am stunned. You have got to be on a wind up. Whats brave enough about it. Its not soul so why would you want to play it. There are literally thousands of real deal soul records to play. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Magpie69 Posted Friday at 22:47 Author Share Posted Friday at 22:47 Just as well I put that crash helmet on. Agree it’s not soul, but at least they are decent songs. No further from soul than Helen Shapiro or Paul Anka stuff that gets played out. As I said, just asking! 1 Link to comment Social source share

No idea why you think they should be played out at NS venues? Link to comment Social source share
Magpie69 Posted yesterday at 07:44 Author Share Posted yesterday at 07:44 Thanks for your measured response, Benji. Perhaps using the word courage in my original post implied that I thought they should be played out. Actually I quite like some of the versions, but would not suggest they are appropriate fodder for a soul night. I was really just interested what the response would be if they were given a spin without any reference to their providence. I think I know now! Time to remove the helmet and lay down my arms! Popular Post Chalky Posted yesterday at 09:26 Popular Post Share Posted yesterday at 09:26 me ears are bleeding! IS this a p*ss tek? If any Dj played these I would want my money back. Why do people feel the need to mess about with a scene that has been going so strong for decades with crap imitations? 4 Link to comment Social source share

I get cover versions but why do people have to think they are acceptable to play at an event? Northern Soul is eitist and driven by the rarities and exclusivity. Naff should be left to the muggles.
