On the back of Mobbsy's thread re Bettye Lavette , has anyone ever checked out the cd 'ATLANTIC SISTERS OF SOUL' ?

There's some wicked deep 'n' soulful tunes on this, one of my fav female artists comps, not sure if it ever surfaced on vinyl. Never the less this is still a superb soul album- not a naff cut on it.

I got a copy of this from EBay a couple of years ago for only a fiver!

Another great CD to check out that's similar is Kent's brilliant "The Girl's Got Soul", more Atlantic stable goodness.

These two CDs were my first exposure to Rozetta Johnson, who's right up there in my top soul female singers.

Me too. Absolutely Fabulous as they say. Stand-out tracks for me are Margie Alexander and Betty Lavette both of which i picked up for around the £5.00 mark - gotta love these two.

Incidentally i saw Ms Lavette sing this track when she did a little show over in Shepherds Bush last year. Goosebumps time !!

Hi

Can only agree wholeheartedly re this CD - some tracks wre played by richard searling on his radio show when it was released

New favourite each time I play it

Current best track would be Dee Dee Warwick kept on talking - gets better every time you play it

Jim

Bought it in Bournemouth whilst at a Conference and still play it on Reflections on Northern soul.

A great collection and before the days when they would put out a vinyl double album as an alternative sound source.
