Popular Post Djmelismo
Reggae and dancehall artist Lukie D’s trademark is his soulful and melismatic vocal style which has been consistent throughout his career, but he must have set a world record when it comes to the number of different labels he recorded for between the years 1988-2018: Original Sounds, VP Records, Alpha Enterprise, Down Sound Records, Brickwall Records, Penitentiary Records, Top Klass, Jet Star Records, Laxis Records, Pull Up My Selecta!, Radical Production, Pioneer Muzik, Exterminator, Uptempo Records, Chris Records, Justice, King Jam, Blue Mountain Records Ltd., Dungle Man Records, Our Choice, Shalom, Look Up, XTerminator, Firehouse Crew, Chris II, Dimension Records, Little ”C” Production, Greensleeves Records, Kingston 11, Davemack Music, Saxon Records, Champion Records, Shocking Vibes, Ghetto Vibes, Jugglin City, Stone Love, Down Sound Records, Fat Eyes Records, Jammy’s Records, Annex, VP Records, Record Factory, John John Records, Duke Records, Fat Eyes Records, Strong One, Volcano, Heavy Dee, Wizard Records, How Yu Fi Sey Dat ?, Chinegro, Bee Cat Records, Ghetto Youth Productions, Anansi Records, High Power Music, Stone Love Music, Kickin Productions, East Coast Records, Duke Records, Top Nail, Stingray Records, Cell Block 321, Mussiya, Telecom Record, Digital-B, Hi Power Music, Untouchables, Freedem, Notice Music, Black & Yellow Music, Time 1 Records, Wild Life Muzik-Ent., Pure & Clean, Mo’ Music Productions, 2 Hard Recordings, Raggedy Joe Records, Sweet Angel, 321 Strong, Ffrench, Boot Camp Records, Manatee Records, Shy Shy Records, Oxway Records, Real McKoy, Hi-Grade Music, Reggae Vibes, Pure Music Productions, Spragga Roots, Music Farm Records, Mixing Lab, Penthouse Records, New Life, B-Rich Records, Dimension Records, Mega Bass, Youth Promotion, Wiz Kidz, Crystal Ball Productions, Flabba Music, KT Records, True Love Records, Fire Ball Records, Mac Dada Productions, Jamdown Records, Cali Bud, Peer Pressure, Rashanco Music, 2 Hard 2001, True Love Records, Sample/Rage Productions, Creation Star Music, Hot-A-Tac, Free Willy Productions, Footsteps Records, Germaican Records Jamaica, Reality Sound, Black Diamonds, Arrows Records, Royal Blend, Digital One Records, S.A.M. Here’s Lukie D ”Everlasting Love” on Stingray Records from 2003: Which ones are the SOUL MUSIC acts that have recorded for the largest number of different labels and do they come close to Lukie D?! You may also want to give examples of quality SOUL MUSIC from Jamaica or maybe that should be another thread. Please move if in the wrong place. Geeselad
I seriously doubt it! That's unbelievable. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Mickey Finn
Nobody is likely to beat Lukie D, although there are perhaps features of the Jamaican scene that make his track record less unlikely - especially if combined with digital download only releases. One soul artist that comes to mind is Donald Height. He released singles between 1960 and 1976 on King, Soozee, Jubilee, Old Town, Roulette, RCA Victor, Shout, Jubilee, Hurdy-Gurdy, Honey, Bell, Mayhew, Dakar and Soulful Music. As Don Day Curtis he recorded for ABC-Paramount. As Prince Jefferies he had a release on Old Town. 15 labels in 16 years. 2 Link to comment Social source share
Djmelismo
Thanks for the response and reactions! According to Wikipedia Lukie D is still active, but no reports on what he has done after 2019 and I haven't been able to find any new releases. Mal C
Maybe not in the same league as Lukie D, but Syl Johnson flipped about from local to major labels an awful lot. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Soul Salad
WOW some list!!, Aren't Reggae acts known for that as the labels are so tiny (obviously not to that extent), Big hat off to DJMelisimo for even compiling that list- BTW Are you "certain" you haven't missed any out? 1 Link to comment Social source share

Nickinstoke
From a UK point of view, a pub conversation raised a similar question about the artist with soul releases on the most UK labels. We came up with 19 labels for Donnie Elbert: Parlophone, Sue, CBS, Polydor, New Wave, Deram, London, Avco, Epic, Mojo, Jay Boy, RCA, Bradley’s, DJM, Klik, All Platinum, Echo, Sugar Hill, Outta Sight. If you include the Joe Boy release that is credited to him, you can get to 20. Does anyone beat Donnie? 3 Link to comment Social source share
