Whats Your 1st Fifteen Records In Your Box/playbox

Why not cover your latest discovery as "Aaron Aardvark & the Amazers" thus ensuring that it's always at the front of the box for those of us who do it right and stick to an alphabetical arrangement. Those who don't are the lowest kind of pond life imaginable.

And don't forget all records must be in white outer cardboard sleeves with inner colored paper sleeves. For instance "Detroit" must be red inners. Some choose green but they are laughingly wrong and deluded individuals who probably cannot be trusted with large amounts of money or your partner.

45s should be placed carefully in the sleeve with the title at the bottom in a straight line [a spirit level does come in handy] and all US releases should have 3-pronged middles inserted [in a "Y" shape] all aligned exactly the same.

While I agree with you in principal I have gone for the variation with the coloured cardboard outers and white inners. My colour schemeing is slightly different from yours which probably suits my smaller inferior collection and is preahps is a little simpler (well I am only a Girlie :g: )

Black - Northern & RnB

Red - 60s Girlie (pop as some may call it - but its my main collecting subject)

Yellow - Youthclub, commercial motwon etc

I am so pleased to see that at least someone still has standards  .

Black,red and yellow!!!!

Do you have a record collection or a small nuclear reactor!!! Way too garish.

Still nice to hear we are of a similar outlook with a commitment to maintaining standards although my wife refers to it as a mixture of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with mild Aspergerger's Syndrome. She does work in Mental Health but as usually she has no idea what she's talking about I've disregarded her diagnosis.

Of course the problem with alphabetical order is that you can immediately identify the gaping black holes in your collection which seem to increase with time and infect the surrounding 45s like a cancer until your box is no better than a vituperative weeping sore discharging puss....

Which reminds me. Must have a word with the wife about clinical depression.

Red Yellow and Black are my old school colours :g: and its all they had at the time. As soon as I have sufficient RnB I will be investing in some green covers to give them an identity of there own.

Quite right to disregard this diagnosis the woman is obvioulsy somewhat deranged. I take it that spices, tinned foods etc are not alphabetically organised within your kitchen cupboards. My sympathies are with you and I really don't know how you manage to live in such a disorganised world.

The mild aspergers and OCD analgies have been made before with regard to other collectors, in jest, not by myself I hasten to add, as I find these patterns of behaviour perfectly normal. Should there be scientific research into how many record collectors have OCD or aspergers?

The one thing I have noticed, probably more prevelant because I tend only to collect female vocals, there are an excessive amount of artists begining with B, Barabra, Betty(e)s, Brendas etc....................what came first the name or the vocation. My name is Barbara therefore I must sing  I would like to see some other names in there so my collection could be more even alphabetically, this inbalance has actually kept me awake at night trying to think of female 60s vocals by artists begining with U or W.

For me it's all about record in company sleeve, rec+slv in cardboard sleeve and those in a polythene sleeve (to prevent from water damage!) And all these filed neatly away in their respective box (alphabetically filed by label/nr.)

The fact that I was becoming a quite pathetic record nerd dawned on me when I bought a load of sturdy ploythene sleeves to replace the slightly less sturdy ones I had before...

That's a string of coincidences.

The colours are exactly the same as those of my wife's old Waffen SS regiment. Her name is Barbara Clare and she thinks she was born to sing although she is tone-deaf and can't hold a note. So convinced of her prowess in this area she has just bought a karoake "thing" that plugs into the TV/DVD in time for her 50th birthday on Saturday and I can hardly wait.

Im afraid there is not a chance of her kitchen cabinets being organised in any basic way as she tends to forget what she's bought, buys it again, stockpiles it so that when you do open the door to hopefully find something you get buried under an avalanche of tomato sauce bottles, tins of salmon and packets of icing sugar.

She is into cooking programmes especially "Come dine with me" for which she has applied to take part, so we have every spice and seasoning known to man although she doesn't actually use them much apart from hot chilli or similar which can be quite disconcerting in her home-made apple pie.

Im hoping she doesn't get to appear on the programme as she gets extremely flustered in the kitchen, blames me for not helping and generally turns into a raging psychopath.

Still, I wouldn't swap her unless anyone does have a "Festival Time" on WDJ Ric-Tic which is a huge festering gap in my collection.

I am confused :D doesn't every one keep their play box neatly in alphabetical order and colour coded cardboard sleeves for genre (i.e. NS, R&B, MP, 60s Girlie etc) then sub colour coded with post-it file tags for tempo

I would guess mine would then be anything starting with A or B, I know Anna Craig, Life of the Party is at the front cos its the only one I keep in my play box that starts with A :P

Do you think I should get out more

QoFxx

Been reading a lot of lists from this thread and am worried by some of the wierd filing systems

bieng used ??? :D

Got to be easier to use the alphabet for either artists or record labels, specially if you get a

request. Dont know about some of you guys but I would be pooing my pants if I could'nt find

my best tunes cos they were randomly shoved in my box. ohmy.gif

I think this could be a subject for another thread.... 'my dj filing system explained, or, was it I just got pissed when I last did a spot and thats how my records ended up the next time I opened my box !!!!

Anyway, I use the good old tried and tested Alphabetical label system in my main northern box....

First 15 from the left hand side of my box. Kind of odd, kind of cookie cutter. Not staged at all since I throw my latest plays in the back of the box and last time I spun was on saturday.

Sly, Slick & wicked- Sho nuff

The Millionaires-Never for me

The Caesars- Girl I miss you

Precisions- Mexican love song ( If i ever convince a girl to marry me, I will insist on this being the song played for our first dance as a married couple)

Royal Esquires- Ain't gonna run

detroit soul- All of my life

Artistics- Hope we have

Jo Ann Garrett- Whole new plan

The turks- you turn me on

Superlatives- Do what you want to do

darrow fletcher- what good am i without you

superlatives- were so lonely (this is the side i prefer)

volcanos- laws of love

jack montgomery- dearly beloved (found this last friday for $4!)

mighty marvelows- this towns too much/youre breaking my heart

united four- one more time/look at her now

ok that's 16 instead. like I said, a little on the cookie cutter side but these were the first records i grabbed from my box.

Sounds like a lot of hard work and i ain't gonna blow my own trumpet but here's my first 3. Al Williams, i am nothing. Palmer. Al Gardner, sweet baby. Sepia. Appreciations, i can't hide it, Aware.
