Russ Winstanley On Gmr Radio

Recommended Posts

On the last 2 Friday nights I've been driving across town to go to Prestwich on the 7th and Lowton on the 14th. Now that Russ Winstanley's northern soul show has moved to Friday's 8-10pm I can tune in. Think he mentioned Wigan Casino 4 times in 10 minutes, now I realise his history with the club and his place within the scene, but words like 'milking it' spring to mind. Russ please note Wigan closed a long time ago. This is an observation not a criticism...He did play 2 records (that suprisingly he'd played at WC) August & Deen 'We go together' ABC then World Column 'So is the sun' Capitol. Oh dear the ABC record sounds absolutely shite now it hasnt aged well at all, it was probably massive at the time but I can hear the purists saying records like that made a mockery of soul at the Casino. Hopefully I'd like to think I'd have said it was shite at the time. Havent heard World Column in years but its so evocative and so manic, edgy and moody. Haven't got a copy mind and don't really want one but its a mighty sound indeed. No records were harmed during the production of this email.

derek

Tommys 6 years over the pension age- He needs to take a late retirement! Out of the 4 people performing at Fleetwood it was difficult so say who was last between him and Lorraine Silver- The other 2 Green & Sigler were in a different class! :)
