Sure will Joan, but you might be better asking Elaine or Nat as they see her more often than i do,with Hayley not getting to as many soul dos, i think like me it is a case of having to sort out babysitters etc....especially now my hubbie has decided that he loves northern enough to want to start going out and about more,so bang goes my babysitter  i don't know arn't some people sooo selfish :P Del xx

Theres some names from the past. Was at the anniversary with Tommo (Notts) Curley, Lynn from Eastwood, Tommy Cragg, along with a baby faced Kitch, Shippo(RIP), Alf, Jenny .... a good 20 odd mob of Notts lot out that night. I look at myself in the video and I look like a 10 year old with facial hair!!

Also travelled a few times with Tommo to Clifton Hall - one good lad.

I haven't seem Curley for years, again what a lad.

I can remember the kick off before the nighter, an unprovoked attack on the queue as I saw it, it wasn't just skinheads but a mix, some rockabilly types in there if I remember. One lad in a leather trench coat with a tash (I won't go there) was particularly active in dispatching the attackers.

Joan -

Saw Haley at both mine and Kitch's 40th Birthdays and at Teffs wedding -top girl on top form. Woody pops over and sees her from time to time she and the young uns doing fine :P

After Wigan, definately my favourite all niter.

'Praying' by Harold Melvin I remember was absolutely massive as well as Kashif which must have been spinned by the great Adam.

Does anyone remember the instrumental of 'Hold back the night' - 'Scrub board' getting played in the main hall and the sound of hundreds of shuffling feet during the silent break in that track ! Brilliant !

I adored the Nighter.I was a regular there from begining to end. Absolutely excellent venue and great DJ line up.

I've got a page dedicated to it on my website mate. https://www.soulechoes.co.uk/

You can straight to The Oddfellows page here:

https://ic0htsk00.ic24.net/soulechoes/Oddfellows.htm

So I heve definiteley not forgotten it...engrained in my memory forever!

Reckon this was The best nighter in the '80's along with Stafford TOTW.

Happy memories  wicked.gif

stumbled upon this forum. i certainly remember the oddfellows from my YTS days being only 16 going on 17 at the time only made it to the 2nd and 3rd anniversary but what a niter to remember stumbling into work on Saturday mornning at the old Phoenix Arts theater. great sound's played and atmosphere was superb. still think there is still enough soul left in leicestershire to revive Leicester as a number one on the soul niter circuit..

I have just bought a disco setup and I am in the process of organizing a 60's soul and Tamala nite for Charity any interested parties please contact me on my email address for more info. hope to relight the torch!! :shhh:

I remember Ally from his record stall bought many a demo off him in my day don't no if he would remember some of the lads who came to him one in particular was ginger a Mod at the time.

Hi dave

Maybe we know each other to look at? I'm originally from Dursley, and used to go to Yate, Leicester, Wheelrights, Roundabout etc. I bet we do.

Do you still go anywhere? I've just started going to Saracens in Cheltenham, since moving back over this way(ish). Top night.

I'm also in the 2nd anniversary video. Dancing a few times, and I'm one of the 5 lads walking into the sunrise in the morning as the video ends. I'm carrying the Rufus Lumley LP with Stronger than me, on.

Mikey

Hi, do u know me and my bro, Sian and Dave Griffiths? Lived in Frocester and went to Dursley scooter club, gigs there and Wheelwrights, Roundabout, also was a regular at Oddfellows and Hinkley as was working in Leics.Got loads of pics from those days.

I was just talking about you yesterday morning. One of my most embarrasing moments was dropping you off (on your scooter?) ay Great Yarmouth, and nearly dropping the scoot in front of a cafe full of skinheads.

I'm Gibbo from Dursley. We (Mike Leeson or Paul Haltham and I) used to pick you up sometimes on the way to Hinkley and Leicester.

Fantastic to hear from you. What is Dave up to?

Thought it was u.

Saw u briefly at the Dursley renunion a couple of years ago, went with my Mum cos my boyfriend didn't want to go!

Really embarassing.

You didnt really speak to me, thought u were being aloof.

Dave is still in San Fran, finally met a girl whose not a nutter, and plans to get married later in the year. He's really into the scooter scene there and has got his girlfriend into scoots and has about four himself now. Occ. races them and I think they have 'runs' most weekends.

Me I live in Bath, agency nursing and doing holistic therapy. Don't know anyoone into the music round here, so when I do see something locally advertised I don't go, as too embarassed to sit on my own!

Was digging out the pics to put on this site or on modculture and theres a few of u and Cath.

Don't know, I found the old modzine Wayne used to do 'Life after 66' recently, almost tempted to write to the address to see if his parents still lived there.

Wayne was getting married last time I saw him, but that was when I stil lived in Leics and I have been in Bath since '87!

Cindy was nursing, probably a matron or director of nursing now!

Hi to anyone and everyone who went to Leicester, Hinkley Leisure centre and Stafford..

I`m Chris Wilkinson and I used to hitch hike, mostly, with a few mates from Newbury in Berkshire. These were the best times of my life and I`d give anything to see any of the old faces from these nighters.

I`m knocking on in years now (43) :wicked::rolleyes: and before I die I want to do it again and it would be a dream come true to be alongside old freinds on the dancefloor.

If anyone remembered me or knows which venues I was most likely to bump into familiar faces I`d well happy.

You can email me at chriswilkinson@dirtydogracing.org

one of the best all niters ever was this nite!! imo of course...

I couldn't get to that one, expecting our first child and overdue, the powers that be thought that I shouldn't go.

So in stead of staying in with me, my so called mates went without me and brought me the tape as a reminder of what I'd missed..

Lost the video years ago but managed to get some footage on DVD.

I think all that footage is on a dvd I used to called, ahem, dancers, which I used to give away free when anyone bought NS on DVD vols 1, 2 and 3 as a set. It's about 2 and a half hours of various nighters including that one, 100 club, bradford etc. I can do all 4 for a tenner now if anyone wants them. (the other 3 feature all the tv clips documentaries etc).

This is not a sales pitch by the way, I'm not bothered about selling dvd's nowadays but can do if required!

The downstairs room always opened later than the main room as they needed to kick out the clubbers and sweep up. It usually started around 1 am and closed at around 7. I dont remember it ever being a modern room solely. One of the lists I ve got of djs on the night (peeled off the wall so I could work out that nights movements) shows Adam, Brian,Robin,Alan Walls, Dave E, Keb and Brian in the doownstairs room. And Brian, Gary Rushbrook,DaveE, Keb, Adam, Tony Clayton,Chris King and Ali upstairs. We expected dj line ups like this everytime...how spoilt were we????????????

I absolutely loved Nottingham Oddfellows ( never understood why it was Notts when it was in Leicester )

Used to go round Gaz Keen's in Leicester or Martin Jenkins in Hucknall first and sometimes back to Steve Ferris's for his mum to make us tea and toast!!!

Also remember the regular trips in my mates Camper Van, all the way from Golbourne used to take ages as it wouldnt go faster than 60

Used to play crash in one of the back rooms or bugger of to Leicester Forrest East services to play on the bandits

Does anyone remember the night someone pulled a knife on Pete Lawson outside and he took it off him by grabbing hold of the blade even though his hand was bleeding like mad or the night the police chased a supposed rapist into the club an d all the lights suddenly got turned on so the police could look for a guy who was sweating from running away???????

Blimey, what a memory.

I do remember the time when I was waiting to get in and a bunch of Oi punks and skins went past and started throwing bricks at the soul crowd. Somebodys car outside got the windscreen smashed and the look on the skinheads faces as a bunch of big b***ard soulies chased them away.

"Oh Happy Days" :P
