Hi All,

New to the forum and have just picked up on this thread, I'm hoping it is still active. I was at the second anniversary and have lost my copy of the video produced on the night, I've followed the links to other sites to try and get a copy but with no luck. Does anyone have a copy they can copy for me or drop it to DVD? Any expenses paid, of course :) .

Thanks.

Al

It certainly was. I bought his Lambretta off him, really bad silver overblack metal flake side panels and I think it had a rat on it somewhere! I forgot about Jane!

Guys that scoot used to belong to me here it is with the Black Rat,

Anyone interested? Ally Mayer did an excellent article on the Oddfellows, that originally appeared in 'Soul Renaissance' magazine #6 (Sept.2002). Including photos.

If anybody wants a copy, i can get some printed up.

Is the venue pretty much as it was then all those years ago? In this credit crunch era I'm amazed but more relieved! C'mon promoters you just know you want to tongue.gif

Hi Joan,

No you didnt imagine it,

yes it was in Leicester and it was called Nottingham Oddfellows,

and yes we might be oddfellows from Nottingham,

but we are proud to be oddfellows,

especially when we are Nottingham Oddfellows in Leicester

get your laughing tackle round that

and yes it was one of the in places to be

be there or be square,

Atb Tom

a Nottingham Oddfellow

Ps thanks for puttting my coat on the stage when the cloaks shut whilst I was getting changed in the swimming pool (ie the toilets with mad mick) would of been lost without it.

WOWWW!!!!

A big hi to everyone whos been on this link, what a blast from the past, some of those pics though, oh dear! Wish I was still that thin, but at least I now have more than one shirt! I am living in the north of scotland, aprox half way between Aberdeen (soul nite sat!!) and Inverness. When I dropped out of the scene me, Rob from Rugby, Jimmy from Rugby (now works for the F.C.O at Istanbul embassy!!) Tink and Jayne Wilcoxson all got into rock climbing where all that skinnyness and footwork was put to good use, this is the main reason I moved to Scotland, which does have a soul scene in Aberdeen but its a little fractious. Have just started going to soul nites and the odd niter again but never lost the love of the music and over the last year the discovery of youtube has really fired me up again

By the way, the incident with the punch up outside went like this, on my way down humberstone gate to the niter i got `jossled` by a dozen or so psycobillies, which i sidestepped and joined the queue. As youll remember the entry was recessed and packed with people, but from down the street it only looked like a few people, mainly young mods, were there so the psycobillies waded in. In an instant the creme of Leicesters football hooligans were out the door and on them, it was like a scene from some kung fu movie as they despatched them with clinical precission, amazing!!

Jimmy turned up at one of our all-niters last year and hadn't aged...barsteward...ohmy.gif

Tink still lives near Rugby (Lutterworth) and drops in sometimes.

Jayne is now living with a poet and being a hippy with loads of kids...laugh.gif

It's February the 18th 1983 and this tender young 18 year old from Shrewsbury has arrived with my mate Carl Heaps at the first Annivesary Allnighter of the Central England Soul Club at the Nottingham Oddfellows Club Humberstone Gate Leicester. Chris King's on the decks and Rev Tony Claytion getting everything prepped for the dance competition. "Can someone find Adam and bring him up on the stage please and even if he's downstairs"

Chris King is playing a live version of Edwin Starr's Time recorded at Hinckley a few weeks before and plugging The Live Rictic Revue Album recorded at Hinckley which was never to come out.The Reverand thanks Chris King for his donation of raffle prizes and annuonces the raffle will be drawn straight after the dance competion.Oh it takes me back...just found an old C90 cassette I recorded that night, thought I'd better record for soul source for prosperity...happy times! I feel 18 again!

Part one

Part two

Were you there too?

Remember getting legged by skinheads that night and a group kicking a load of scooters over.

I was there that night. Remember it like it was yesterday. My first nighter was OddFellows then Hinckley, Loughborough, Stafford, Buzzard, Briilant days. 60s Newies, Keb, Guy, Ali Mayer, Evison, .

Heart Attack days to much excess so you hit the note perfect when you danced.biggrin.gif

For me this was my first real nighter after graduating from Lacarno Alldayers,

Used to dance in front of stage. right side as you look at it. Then often spent time behind stage with Rod Pickle Jason and Co. And the crew from Cheltenham. My favorite Nighter of all time. as i never got to Wigan as looked to young so did not waste my time.

60,s newies were where it was at. Joan my mate used to go out with you i think. Miles Prouse.

Fond memories of local doos in the same area. Market Harbourgh. Stafford, Hinckley.

Wish i had a camera in them days.:D
