Bazm
So here's the description on the tin........................... It's got everything you could want from a Northern night. "anorther great night at Lowton on Friday." "Brilliant Night.........Night over too soon" "Another top nite at Lowton" "Wow...What a Fantastic Night!" "What a great night out it was at Lowton, Brilliant to see this fantasic venue back on form" "Loved It" LOWTON CIVIC HALL - HEASKETH MEADOW LANE - LOWTON - Nr WIGAN So did last night do what it says on the 'tin' ? Well i'll try to give one perspective cause I spent all my time in the main room last night, so Joan on the DDA guys will have to tell you about the second room later. First of all it was a busy night, so that's always good but more than that, everyone I talk to comments on how Lowton is back to 'the old days' now that's not 'Wigan days' or 'Torch days' that's 'Lowton's days' doing what Lowton has always done, playing great Soul music to an appriciative crowd, and that certainly was the case last night. Nev was playing familiar sounds early doors as people where arriving with a mix of 60's and 70's and by 9pm the main room was busy will more and more people arriving thru the night. Next on was 'Local' collector Kev McCue whos selections included, The Paramount Four, Shepperds, Traits, Bobbettes, Linda Elliot, Honey and the Bees and Fran Jeffries all of which sounded great over the new sound system. Next up was Kev Murphy with a great selection of floor pleasers and Lowton favourites including The Del Tours, Carressors, Danny Woods, Paulette and the Sonatas. I followed Kev with this intention of getting maximum floor reaction, which was achieved with the likes of Curly Moore, Gerri Hall, Charles Farren, Tony Galla, Karmello Brooks, Eddie Spencer, Skip Jackson, Barbara Carr, Two People and TJ Williams. Then came the main guests of the night Andy Dyson and Dean Anderson! Both Andy and Dean are regular guests at Lowton and have an excellent rapport with the crowd there, as a result the last two hours were filled with music that generally you would not really expect to hear at a regular Soul night and I did not hear a bad record in the two hours. What I did hear was a selection of tunes that would have graced the speakers at any of the top all-nighters. Quality Uptempo Nothern Soul! Playlists to follow....... 2am came all too soon and the end of another great night at Lowton. So, as it says on the tin, Atmosphere, Choice of Great Music loads of records for sale and a great social crack. Good to see Sam, Guy Hennigan, Chalky, Bob Hinsley, Carol Mc, Robbo, Dave R, Malc W, Geoff W and Steve Barr. As I say did really get in the DDA much but heard it was v busy, so guys over to you................... Edited May 12, 2007 by BazM Link to comment
soul45s
Another top night at Lowton Very busy record bar, always the busiest of the monthly venues, lots of quality vinyl for sale Main room was rockin from early doors, superb atmosphere, plenty of dance floor action to the choice tunes being played. Enjoyed the majority of sounds being played by the DJs, but must give a special mention to Kev McCue who played a blinding hour of generally underplayed tunes and kept the dancers happy! Well done Kev your selections were appreciated by many, i've not seen the dancefloor so busy early doors before! cheers Paul Edited May 12, 2007 by soul45s Link to comment
Chalky
Excellent night last night, good mixture of sounds to an appreciative floor which was full all night. As Paul said the record bar one of the best and busiest about with plenty of sellers every time. Credit to Kev and Baz for providing one of the best soul nights in the country Link to comment
grouse
Brilliant night, one of the best I've been to at Lowton. Great tunes in both rooms, my biggest problem was worrying about missing out on what was being played in the room I wasn't in!!! Well done Kev,Baz,Joan Keep it up. Link to comment

From my point of view I had an ACE TIME once again at Lowton and it was a great pleasure to be asked to play a few tunes by The DDA gang (Karl,Joan & Paul) I thoroughly enjoyed myself...that's a bit of an understatement !!!! Top tunes from all concerned some great stuff from Ian Cunliffe !! Usual quality from The DDA !I wondered into the main room a couple of times which was really buzzing, great crowd as always and had loads of chinwags with friends..love the social side of this venue! York crew...yer mad and I luv ya ! See y'all at Cleethorpes. Thankyou to everyone who gave me such great feedback on my selections I'm so glad you enjoyed the tunes and sorry but can't remember everyone who asked for CDs so please remind me if your reading this. I'll post a playlist later ...Thanks to Baz M,Kev & All The Lowton Crew for a Top Night !!!!!!! Edited May 13, 2007 by bearsoul Link to comment
Sanquine
If you've never been to Lowton I recommend you get down and give a try - sure you won't be disappointed - something for everyone. These day's I spend most of the night in DDA room as it offer's something a bit different which is always a good thing in my book Quite of lot of uptempo which suits me to a T - but some fantastic mid-tempo too, infact a great mix and always get to hear records I've not heard before - the passion and enthusiam from the dj's, always makes the atmosphere in this room spot on Spent a lot of time going through to the Main hall to catch up with friends and spent the last 2 hours listening to top sets from Andy and Dean - My timing for the ladies couldn't have been worse - as miss judged the start of Andys set and he started with the fantastic dancer - Bobby Valentine - and my all time fav - Hayes Cotton from Dean - the full dance floor delayed me getting my feet on the floor for a few precious seconds, as I made my dash back from the ladies - but I made it on both occassions and danced my way to soul heaven Till next time.... Its been a year or so since I last went & the DDA room was a refreshing change. Met up with a few people enquiring about my forced hibernation from the scene recently, who were unaware about my Diabetes. Well things are "picking up" a bit for me now health wise, so as Primbrook Skiggs once said.....that was yesterday.....I'm on the mend & hoping to become more active again from now on ! Regards to All Ritchie. Link to comment
