Why doesn't Paddy come on here and the RSF and such like where he advertises the event and set the record straight. I know some who have or were buying a weekend pass on the strength of seeing Deon!!!!

So not only no Deon looks like getting only a Contours tribute band as well :P

One day while sitting around with some friends singing different songs he met a young man named Martin (Bennie) Upshire who, at the time, was the lead singer for THE CONTOURS. They became good friends. Shortly afterward, on November 11, 1984, Bennie invited Charles to audition for THE CONTOURS to replace Arthur Hinson, who was leaving the group. He accepted and found himself sharing the stage with Joe Billingslea, an original member of THE CONTOURS that had inspired him as a young man.

GREAT TRIBUTE BAND WITH 23 YRS SERVICE WITH A GROUP WITH ORIGINAL MEMBER JOE BILLINGSLEA IN THE LINE UP :(:shades::D

one original member doesn't make them the original contours, he wasn't even the lead singer :P:D so harldy the original contours is it. As said elsewhere two Contours in existence and becoming like the Drifters. They are the Contours in name only IMO.

I've had enough of all this bollocks.

I know Mr Grady is not going to be pleased with me but guys give the ole boy a break. every fuckin year you lot give him the big eavo, why he puts on a weekender that he allways looses on?

ffs Paddy show them all the signed contract you have with Mr Jackson including the appearance of Mr Jacksons guitarist plus the email from the states re: the pullout. Those that have suggested that Mr Grady is pulling a fast one please email him on paddy.grady@btinternet.com I'm sure he'll give you the low down...

For what its worth I'm looking forward to the whole weekend warts and all.Thank you Mr and Mrs Grady for sorting this out.

PD

No one suggesting Paddy pulling a fast one Paul. Just clarification from what I can see. I was hoping to get to see Deon and I know others who were thinking the same so if he isn't coming I for one am glad I didn't pay out any money as I'd no interest in seeing any of the others. As I mentioned Paddy uses this site and at least one more to advertise the event but silence when something doesn't go to plan.

Chalky ...I think you'll find Paddy has unsubscribed from this website as he's sick to death of all the vindictive personal abuse he gets.

I understand(and will be corrcected) but everyone that had booked tickets had been contacted with regard to Mr Jackson cancelling.

I like you am bitterly dissapointed that Mr Jackson will not becoming to out shores, he is without doubt one of my heroes.

I like Paddy, he's one of those blokes that just gets on with it however some of the shyte Ive read on here I find appaling and if I;m honest upsetting, he imo doesn't deserve it. All this "I know this and I know that is crap...those that still believe he's bee at the front end of some fraud go contact him personally.

YES AGREE ONE ORIGINAL MEMBER DOESN'T MAKE THEM ALL ORIGINAL CONTOURS , THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW CHANGES OVER THE YEARS. JOE HAS BEEN THERE FROM DAY ONE , AGAIN AGREE JOE WAS NOT THERE LEAD SINGER THE GROUP HAVE HAD A FEW OVER THE YEARS EVEN THOUGH JOE HAS BEEN WITH THE GROUP ON ALL THERE RECORDINGS APART FORM THE TRACK I'M A WINNER THIS WAS DONE BY SOMEONE USING THERE NAME CONTOURS. JOE CAN BE CLASSED WITH OTIS WILLAIMS FROM THE TEMPS , DUKE FROM THE TOPS.... ETC , NEVER LEAD SINGERS , STILL RECORDING ALBUMS (EVEN THOUGH HIS VOICE ARE ONLY BACKING VOCALS) BUT MOST IMPORTANT STILL PERFORMING HAS AN ORIGINAL MEMBER BECAUSE HE WAS.

If Mr Darcy is who I think he is (Jane Austin would of approved.... spot on!) I think he wouldnt consider the above fit to lace his shoes for knowledge or records in his previous collections so wait for the answer at your peril. (if you had to read it for o level you d remember Mr Darcy was an arrogant g*t)

Dont play with him Andy, it s a Northamptonshire thing again!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Dad s bigger than your Dad, I ve got on it the white demo, etc etc

PS Del, ladies with records are just a token novelty act ( or they are lesbians) we dont have the brain capacity for it apparently.( a proper dj told me that!)

Ps there is nothing wrong with your credentials!

sorry I quoted the wrong post...

I learnt along time ago the best way to difuse a situation is to agree with the synopsis...I'm just one of the lads who owns a few and 9 times out of ten manages to lift the needle onto the record before it starts while mumbling some rubbish that no one either understands nor is remotley interested in...

cya this weekend....

So are Joe Billingslea and the rest of the group coming ? I got the impression that it was just Chuck Davis because the advert doesn't say 'The Contours' does it.

Paul

I know you are sticking up for a mate, but as far as I can see, no one has said he has been at the front end of a fraud - as I said on another thread I was personally involved in trying to secure Deon Jackson to appear in the UK at another weekender. In fairness, to say "(all this) I know this and I know that is crap " is not accurate. I spoke personally with John Nance who was Deons guitarist and was acting as his 'agent' on more than one occassion and negotiations for his appearance (accompanied by John Nance ) took place between JN and a bona fide booking agent. It was made quite clear several months ago by JN that for personal reasons Deon Jackson would not be coming to the UK. It therefore makes little sense that John Nance or whoever else in the US would say to one party Deon won't travel and to another he will and go as far as having DJ sign a contract unless of course there is something more to it all that I am unaware of. So thats a summary of my first hand experience.

Given Paddy's statements on his website regarding taking legal action against people I'm sure he will be speaking to his brief if he feels he has been accused of fraud or has even been the victim of it.

I have just had a read of the thread on the Soulful Detroit Forum re Deon Jackson and it is quite interesting - obviously I can't cross post on here but here's the link to the relevant section SDF

All the best

Mike

I'm a very improper dj - stop looking at my tits, my records are down here  Sadly, I won't be able to make this weekender owing to some domestic upheaval that was completely unforseen. Paddy has been totally gracious and understanding about it and I hope y'all have a fabulous time. I'll miss you :( Jo

mr donnelly , cliff steele is a life long friend of mine and l thought a friend of yours. you know as well as me mr grady never paid him for a whole weekends djing and not because it was a misunderstanding he just refused to pay him. you know this because you have spoken to cliff about it.

Hi Paul,

Paddy unsubscribed from this forum shortly after I asked him if Deon Jackson was still appearing at his weekender on May 3rd & he told me he was still on.

Coincidence?

https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.p...47873&st=50

No vindictive personal abuse there, just facts.

Not accusing him of fraud or anything but he does seem to be terribly mis-informed about the artists he has booked as I knew in April that Deon was sadly not coming over.

As for the personal abuse suggestion i have'nt seen any on these pages, just people looking for clarification as to wether Deon is appearing or not.

Perhaps it might have looked better if Paddy had stopped on this site & cleared matters up over Deons non appearance as other promoters have done in similar circumstances.

Blimey, opened up my PM's this morning and it would appear by others that Terry is suggesting I should support a mate and NOT work for Mr Grady? IF that is your angle Terry this discussion should be continued via email.

For the record so you are absolutely clear Terry I was unaware of any non payment of fees until you tapped me on the shoulder in the Bogs at the Velvelettes gig in Pboro. Not being paid for services rendered is a big no no in my book.

I spoke to Steel who informed me that he had not been paid I then confronted Grady who informed me that Steel did not get paid in £sd but did receive a number of weekend passes in lieu of payment, now what actually DID happen is nowt to do with me.

For the record Grady is NOT a friend, I do not socialise with him etc. in fact his outlook on the UK northern soul scene is completley different from mine, however I do like the bloke simply because he has a go, does it Imo professionaly and has always paid me the agreed figure on the night when I work for him.

If you are suggesting that due to Cliff be unable to shake his fee out of Grady I should stop working/communicating with Grady then I'm sorry I can't do that. I'll support anyone who I feel needs supporting, in fact it wasn't that long ago I used to keep an eye on a really nice bloke who moved from Slipton to Cambo... thumbsup.gif
