I'm a very improper dj - stop looking at my tits, my records are down here wicked.gif Sadly, I won't be able to make this weekender owing to some domestic upheaval that was completely unforseen. Paddy has been totally gracious and understanding about it and I hope y'all have a fabulous time. I'll miss you :D Jo

Jo It s not the same without you.

Northampton only has one testicle!

Apart from Deon Jackson you mean whistling.gif

Yes please.

Well it was the usual business for Northampton. All very laid back and chilled. Not long after getting in and saying a few hellos, I spied Yvonne, Chuck etc all sat at a table signing bits and bobs for people, I asked Yvonne if she would say hi to Rich and told her he d forgotten to bring a photo he has of her, with him for signing. She was a bit blown away by us all and loved that she is still so highly thought of, she had a look at Manship s Million Dollars of soul...nice touch having her on the same page as Frank Wilson!. Rich got a huge hug and hopefully tonight we will hear Just like you did me!

Last night was the turn of Chuck( I ve only been a Contour for 25 years) Davies singing with the Soul Patrol.......he was very very good! And well worth going to see if you like your music live, intimate and personal.

Then Thelma Jones............wonderful stuff from start to finish. And Yvonne came and danced with us which was just fantastic and what Northampton weekends are all about.

I ve read all the political stuff but I ve done all three now so feel qualified to say that I m very glad to have been able to see Chuck Jackson sing his heart out four foot away from me...so close that I could touch him. I m thrilled to have seen Almeta Latimore and tell her how much I love These Memories. I still have goosebumps from thinking about Pat Lewis roaring out Dont be sore at Me after explaining how she wrote it as a teen punk kid. I love having got in a lift with a Masquerader, this stuff is absolutely awesome ( pretty surreal but awesome)

In all honesty I wouldnt go to Northampton if there were no live acts, I m actually really grateful for all the folks involved in the weekenders , past and present for giving me the chance to see these fantastic people, 20 minutes up the road from my house too! If youre in the area tonight you might want to come and press your ear up to the glass for the Elgins or even put aside the soul snoberry for a minute and buy a ticket. (BUt bring your own beer ....the bar prices are ridiculous.)

That do Dave? I dont do eloquent on three hours rest!

I went last year....(couldn't really afford it this year) and I can back up what Cat says (and NOT because Paddy is supposed to be a mate before you chip in Tony). Not only did I see the Falcons live on their first ever trip to Britain, but to have a drink with them, and a dance too........ you wouldn't get that at Prestatyn simply because of the numbers of people Prestatyn pulls in. Northampton, as Cat rightly points out is laid back and intimate but none the poorer for it. I would understand the sniping of some people if they had actually been to any of the do's.

Hi Paul,

Paddy unsubscribed from this forum shortly after I asked him if Deon Jackson was still appearing at his weekender on May 3rd & he told me he was still on.

Coincidence?

https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.p...47873&st=50

No vindictive personal abuse there, just facts.

Not accusing him of fraud or anything but he does seem to be terribly mis-informed about the artists he has booked as I knew in April that Deon was sadly not coming over.

As for the personal abuse suggestion i have'nt seen any on these pages, just people looking for clarification as to wether Deon is appearing or not.

Perhaps it might have looked better if Paddy had stopped on this site & cleared matters up over Deons non appearance as other promoters have done in similar circumstances.

Now I'm a thick twat however if Mr Grady peruses or is approached by Mr Jackson or an agent of Mr Jackson and a contract is signed surley said promoter is entitled to advertise said artist appearing, if so many people were aware at that point that Mr Jackson would NOT be appearing could someone explain why they didn't contact Mr Grady and warn him that someone maybe having his leg up?

Was a contract signed though Paul?

Not only that, if so many people knew Deon was not coming over i'm sure this news would have filtered through to Paddy so why did he reply to my post saying he was definitely still appearing?

The reason I asked was as i'd heard he was not coming over so I thought i'd get the info from the horses mouth so to speak.

Although I haven't seen the contract Grady insists that he has one for DJ and his guitarist and quoted me the figure agreed which included flights and hotel accommodation etc..I have no reason not to believe him. Grady would NEVER advertise an artist without a contract...I spoke to someone in the know from the USA last night who confirmed that due to health issues it was always unlikely that DJ would never have travelled, for all we know It may be that someone signed on his behalf for personal gain elsewhere..possibly via Paddys naivety he presumed that once you have a contract then its game on. I genuinley hope that Grady hasn't been stitched up finacially by laying down a deposit????

I can also back up Cat as well...it is only work comittments which prevent from being there this year...nothing can ever compare to seeing the Masqueraders live at that very first weekender. having them sing "How Big Is big" to me personally in the foyer.and having Them wave to me as i passed them in the Diner at the following year's Prestatyn..much to the surprise of all the passing soulies rolleyes.gif is an experience i wouldnt have missed for the world....swapping make up tips with the lewis Sisters..hugging Betty Boo........looking in awe at Chris Clark..a 6ft blonde vision dressed all in white...and thinking" oh my god...am i dead....is that an angel coming to escort me through them pearly gates???"...the Northampton weekender has a very relaxed vibe...which for people who "are curious about the Northern scene might be right for...i am sorry that i can't make a night at least this time...but ne mind eh...oh BTW saw Sean Chapman and his good lady strolling along one of the High Streets this afternoon...was on the bus...resisted the temptation to open the window and holler "Yo Sean and Lady" loudly out of the passing vehicle  us Northants soulie have a bad enough rep already it would seem :D:wicked: anyway to all of ya who are there...enjoy you fine selves okay....Delxx
