with regards to the good turn out bit.

depending how you veiw things the dome was either half empty or half full.

having been a regular up their when it was a premier nite out and the place was rammed its a bit of a dissapointment to return when its quiet.

musically it was good though we did feel that a few of the tunes skipped being soul, missed r&b and were doowop music.

not sure why dj,s feel they need to play this at soul do,s.

personally i thought it was gonna be pretty shit all nite.

it seamed to lack any atmosphere in the first couple of hours.

maybe the tunes played were wrong for the nite,or for the crowd that turned up.

i enjoyed most of jodies set but it didnt set the dancefloor alight along with the sets prior to hers.

think the dj who followed her had the right idea as he managed to fill the floor nicely.

maybe the bubble has burst on the soul scene in london and thats why it wasnt full.

who knows.

is having it bi monthly a good idea considering the turn out.

on a footnote can you have a word with the dome about watering down their lager,it was awful sleep3.gif and lose the spot lights

Ha ha, Rob's gone skiing, and judging by the way he dances he'll be lucky to get back without some brocken bones, so his playlist may take some time to type out! tee hee.

(sorry Rob, I'm just jealous that you're skiing and I'm stuck in an office!) :(

With regards the night, I thought musically it was very good for the first half (maybe 2/3) and I was enjoying it (in terms of music) much more than I had enjoyed the first half of any Dome nights for well over a year. Then the music went a little 'wayward', and with a night which is only half full that can be catastrophic. The DJs after that low point had a job on their hands, but they recovered well.

I heard from Ian that Jo Jo's was a little quiet as well, so maybe the fact that it is the end of the month, just after xmas and the new year ment a few people were broke and couldn't afford to come out? I'm sure it will be busier next time! :(

wot a brilliant night!!!

it was a good turnout early in the evening - but then didn't continue to fill up as it did on the CSC nights - so it wasn't anywhere near rammo. however, it was a really nice crowd in and there was a good lively atmosphere for most of the night. personally, i think that the fact that a lot of regular dome attendees went to manc-land on saturday early in the day for the dayer (prior to NCSC niter) threw a bit of a spanner in the works. fairplay to nick hackett though - still got the energy to do both - i'm too old now, or perhaps he just had an easier paper round than me

musically, i thought it was fabulous. i especially enjoyed ady's spot - absolutely superb

my main thing is is 70s/modern.......but i do love 6ts soul too. my problem with going to northern dos is that i find it frustrating that often the 6ts played is either mainly established oldies (yawn) or super rarities of dubious quality (zzzzzzzzz). i thought that the balance was about right on the first night and i heard a lot of great tunes i wasn't familiar with.

i hope that once word gets around how good the first night was there will be a better attendence and this event will become even more successful

since returning to the scene in the last two or three years i have been to some real stinkers (did anyone else go to that wigan anniversary niter at stoke - oh my god!) but i have also started to work out the events which i have enjoyed most for atmosphere and top quality tunes, such as: marrs bar, lifeline and seriously soulful. i would put ady's first night at the dome up there alongside my favourites

Wayne,

With regards to your remarks , & I quote, "having been a regular up their when it was a premier nite out and the place was rammed".

Now wayne, apart from the odd night that I missed due to my trips to the U.S., I would not miss a night at 'The Capital Soul Club'. I liked what the club stood for, progression & innovation, with a nice mix of oldies. So in no way will I pass a bad word about it.

Like yourself, I was at the nights when it was full. But I was also there when the numbers were low, were you not still going then wayne? You seem to only want to remember the "rammed" nights. You have to remember The Dome is a big building, so half full/half empty is still a lot of people!

You seem to be 'down' on the whole night wayne, come up with some useful suggestions, rather than picking fault, suggest what YOU want. Do you want an out & out oldies night? Do you think London is a lost cause? Do you think I should jack it in? Do you think I should lose some weight? You tell me wayne.

Ady.

maybe you wanna swallow a chill out pill next time you reply.

re read my post as i had a good nite though i found it started pretty slow to start with.

do you only want to see reply,s where youre mates suck up to you.

the bit about bi monthly was a genuine question.

yep i was a regular from the first nite .

even went to some of the less turned out nites but stopped because of these and other reasons..went again last year and the turnout was still low.

sorry but after going somewhere that was one of the best clubs around

to somewhere half empty with no atmosphere it kinda puts you off.

i just wonder if the fact that youre do is in the dome is off putting to punters for that reason.

so do you think london can host a bi monthly nite.the dome couldnt sudstain being every 3 months so i cant see it being different now.

maybe as stated the fact that half of london went north the following day played a part though i find it hard to beleive that youde have to avoid do,s that are 200 odd miles away on a different nite .

the piece about playing doowop is a valid one.the same about the music.funny i dont remember saying the music was crap just if it was suitable for the crowd that was there.

after all unless my eyes were seeing things the dancefloor never really got busy till after jodies set.

isnt that the idea of a good dj though to work the crowd to get them dancing.

just a thought though maybe the punters didnt go because of youre attitude.

as for youre weight.

as we dont know each other i really wouldnt like to comment on youre personal upkeep.

.....yeah i did it was dreadful.

Bad sound system, dreadful live acts, the wigan joker, played out oldies, some anonymous saxophonist playing elevator music, modern room closed etc etc.

Really depressing.

..........all recorded on dvd if anyones interested.

hello all

i just wanted to add my piece.

i thought it was a brilliant night (of course i am biased) i know for a fact that graham and i having just played a our first set in london thought the music over the whole evening was blinding. well done to everyone who played that night and defintiely well done to ady. i know how long this has taken and how much work and effort was put into making this night the success it was (not to mention the miles travelled by both ady and tommy)

anyway, more power to the dome and bring on the march do!

best regards to everyone

Ady the lowest attendance at the Capitol Soul Club was 160

maybe you where counting the punters in the record room.

I finished the Capitol soul Club because Six years is long enough

to be running a club and it would be great to go out on the sixth anniversary which off course it was.

Ady, I wish your night success.

I organised the trip up north the following day which may well have taken away from your crowd that night and I'm sure a lot of them will be there in future. But to be honest mate, if your (later edited) post was having a dig at previous Dome organisers you're on the wrong track mate.

capitOl Soul Club was, and is, a cherished and massively respected part of the London Mod and Soulies calendar and if we could be there we were. It genuinely meant a hell of a lot to a lot of us.

Whether or not there there are enough nights in London to keep us all going, or enough nights for us to keep going is largely irrelevant but for pity's sake - no more divides.

Come on the Mods!
