When we were little kids, our Gran had an Andre Brasseur LP record that me and my brother loved. We'd beg her to put it on the dansette and then dance round her front room like loons. Twenty five years later I found about the Belgian Popcorn scene and realised I was a big fan at eight years old

Hi Pete

Never seen him before, brilliant.

One of my favourite early sounds.

I still have a place in the collection for this, brilliant Picture Cover, by the way NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE.

The Kid, Not a rare record, but reminds me of the Early Days of collecting, found a copy in a second hand shop,

wonder what else was there that I missed, there used to be thousands of 60's records at our local second hand shop.

is that the Original release in the Country of this records origin, Belgium I think it was  although I'm probably wrong. :(

Love this tune, always have, time for a revival?

Simon

 Agree totally - could do with more instrumentals being played at Soul nights full-stop, in MHO.

It's tracks like this that have always made Northern Soul so fascinating and hard to define - after all, it's got knack all to do with soul, but still sounds so right at a soul night (I'll be in trouble with the 'soul police' now for saying that!!!) :P

HA! That's the very album I was on about earlier in the thread.

I haven't seen that sleeve for years

Thanks for posting that Paul.

Steve, if you're in the Crown over August bank holiday, we'll try & get Mischeif to spin "The Kid" :P:thumbup:

Good Lord NO!

This had its time and place in the dim and distant past (fortunately) - if it holds great memories for you that's swell - but please don't inflict it on this doggies ears.

I think there was a track on the album called 'Holiday' (or something similar) that I liked better than The Kid, but it was 30 years ago....

Funnily enough, I was talking to Jimmy Drake this afternoon about the Crown - make sure Mischief brings me a sherbert dib dab as well

Thing is though, when this was "big", the Buzzcocks were still about 6 years away from being invented.

Totally agree with Pete, Not soul, but Northern.

It's like with a lot of these records - the difference between hearing them on a pc or record player is massive compared to hearing them at boneshaking volume at an allnighter

  • 12 years later...

Remember hearing it on my first ever visit to the casino I was gobsmacked how good I thought it actually was, then on the train home some one had taped the night and it came blasting out again. But my favourite ever Wigan instrumental had to be Harley Hatcher soul hustler ( al de lory discotheque alibi) sounded awesome blasting out of those speakers
