Luverly!!!!, first heard this played out by Keith Money a couple of years back

I've been playing it for at least 4 years, but then I don't 'play out' that often. :) (The auction one is to replace the vg one I played)

I meant to bid on the Positive Change lp but a combination of tiredness and stupidity led to my downfall.

Flip side is an old CASINO tune, "Dream Girl" was much too slow and tame back then.

Am i the only one suprised at most of these prices they seem almost reasonable unsure.gif

Yeh, except the Sam Dees being a bit heavy perhaps, probably about equal to ebay prices, give or take a small bit. Only thing i've seen go for an obscene amount over the last couple of auctions was the Luther Ingram at over £600  near on double the price of the Matadors

The Sam Dees was a DJ/Promo copy.... strangely not the single sided Promo, but both sides... first I've ever seen listed.... seems a fair enough price considering its rarity

that vashons is a marvellos cover, in case anyone cares

Well spotted sir!

I never noticed the connection (although sounds so familiar) because The Vashons - We'll Be Together - is credited to Sykes & Carter. The lyrics are all but identical on The Marvellos - loma 2045 but are credited to Willie Hutch.

Could Willie have been involved with The Vashons before the Loma outing?? The Vashons seems to be an earlier production. The lead vocalist sounds likewe've heard the guy before, I thought it sounded like The Servicemen but now you got me thinking.

any suggestions? anyone know anything definate?

Rather than The Marvellos being covered, I am inclined to think The Vashions was first.

Vashins comes under Tinadale Pub.BMI, if that helps.

The Marvellos comes under the Finnesse Music Co.BMI

BTY the first copy to come to the UK was found in L. A. and sold to Steve Chadwick many moons ago.

Down to condition maybe? Wasn't this EX? I know you got about £650 when you auctioned my M- copy for me about a year ago.

Adam.

Absolutely, condition is everything, that's certainly why "Exus Trek" went so well last month, the condition was immaculate.

I don't know the history. The reason I thought it was a cover and not an original is that the Marvellos "We Go Together" was their hit (obviously minor) in the US (I know the northern side is the flip, but people in the US remember "we go together"). Even one of the Marvelows talked to me about it, he was like "they ripped us off and did our songs at shows, but they did have one good song 'we go together'". I always assumed that it was a cover of a minor hit song by an obscure group. Also, lots of times when groups covered records they or the label owners credited themselves, even though they were not the writers (I can pull out a bunch of examples if you care). So it's hard to tell from just the label, unless it's possible to date it somehow as before 6/66, which is when the soul harmony singles book says the marvellos came out.

It will perhaps remind amystery. The records looks, feels and sounds earlier than 1966 but that's no indication of certainty. Strangely they call it "We'll Go Together" perhaps to disquise they are covering a minot hit.. but it could also be the original and Willie was maybe involved somewhere, but not credited. Unfortunately he's dead now so we can't asked him, if he was involved he certainly got his revenge with the hit.

The Vashons is far more Northern, with the Marvellos being more polished but slower.

Listening to the production you'd guess Vashons was earlier.... who knows if you turn up anything concrete it'd be nice to know.

Anyhow both are great records..in their own right.

can you tell when the vashons was pressed by matrix / deadwax markings? Do you know where the vashons record is from? If it's not from LA, it's probably a cover.

Totally unrelated, but I have a bizarre phonetics record no one knows about, I got it on ebay a few years ago (it was actually cracked, I hate cracked records, but I just wanted to hear it). It's on a label called H-E-D and both sides are doowop (one is uptempo, but still too early to have northern interest). It's probably earlier than all the trudel stuff, but it's definitely the same or connected phonetics as willie hutch has writing credits. I even asked doowop people and no one knew it. Strange that there would be an unknown phonetics 45.
