Come See 'bout Me - Donnie Elbert

What's known about this record?

Where and when was it released?

UK release? USA release?

Is it the same record as the Jeannie Dee 45?

Anybody got a soundbyte of either?

Any info would be much appreciated.

The Jeannie Dee 45 was produced by Elbert when he lived here, apparantley.

Dont know if they are same record but most probably.

Sean

Yes, that's what I've read somewhere also. At least the bit about him producing it with Jeannie Dee whilst he was living over here.

Has anybody heard the Donnie Elbert version?

Has anybody got a soundbyte of his or Jeannie Dee's?

Come on you guys, I thought this site and it's members represented the fountain of all knowledge.

Has anybody got a copy of Donnie Elbert's "Ooo baby Baby" on UK Avco but instead of "Ooo Baby Baby" it is actually Donnie singing "Come See About Me"?

Has anybody got any kind of release by Donnie singing "Come See About Me", ie 45, Lp track, CD, etc?

Has anybody heard Donnie singing "Come See About Me"?

Get your memory sticks out and have a good think.

There's gotta be 'somebody' out there who can offer some useful info on this matter.

My UK avco copy of Ooh baby baby plays correctly. Not heard of a mis-press.

Thanks for your response but take my word for it, it exists.

What I don't understand is that I can't find anybody who can provide any further information.

Like a US 45 release? Or a release in some other format from some other country.

Is this mis-press just a UK thing? Did it not get released anywhere else? Is this UK Avco mis-press the ONLY way this record exists?

Come on everybody, give me your input.

I have actually heard this version but know for a fact it was off a CD.

As far as I'm aware there have been several versions of this record over the years the ones I'm aware of other than the Jeannie Dee are -

Nella Dodds (1964), Jr. Walker & the All Stars (1968), Baby Washington (1980)

Don't know about all those different Motown releases nearly every week on different labels, you'd have to elaborate further, but yes, the Avco release was indeed 1972.

I am sure it's on one of his early 70s albums. I will check later if no one else confirms meanwhiles.

Steve G, thanks for your input.

Please dig out that info if you can, it would be most helpful.

Thanks ShorterSoul, that's the recording I'm on about.

Wonder if it ever got a proper release anywhere as a 45, except for the mis-press on UK Avco?

Pete Smith, have you got any comments / input in regard to this 45?

And so, has anybody seen or got a copy of this UK Avco mis-press of 'Ooo baby Baby' with 'Come See About Me' instead?

I wonder how many copies might exist?

Anybody out there with a copy?

Come on you UK label collectors, own up!!!

Isn't it on the Avco mobile disco compilation album from the early seventies? I have it somewhere but can't find it right now.

Do you know what, I think you might be correct and I think another contributor to this thread is looking into this tonight hopefully.

Also, now you mention it, I think I've seen that Lp, it was one of a mini series I believe?

I'm hoping John Manship will be able to shed some light on this subject for me, about the 45 on UK Avco that is. Perhaps I should PM him to attract his attention?

Just been down to the lock up and found 2 copies of "Ooh baby baby" on Avco and they both play the title. No sign of "CSAM"

So, all's that remains now is somebody with the 'Come See About Me' 45 on Avco.

Possibly John Manship? Pete Smith? Mick Smith?

Now there's an idea, Mick Smith, does he post on this Forum? Anybody know?

This is a new one on me,

OOH BABY AVCO 6105013 - 1972 UK press, mine plays as is credited.

AVCO 4598 USA release plays as credited also.

I've never heard of a miss-press before, but now I'm certainly on the look out. I may have a few copies in my garage, I'm off to find 'em and play 'em.

I might get lucky.. I'll be back if I do find a miss-press.
