Travelling to soul venues is nothing new for some of us! Here is one to top the lot. Trailfinders usually have specials on to Oz. There is still time to book a flight! Come on down!

"Gonna Be a Big Thing"_- Sydney Soul Weekender: NSW Australia

When: 7/8/9th September 2007

Where: Sydney CBD

Friday 7th Paddington RSL Club (220-232 Oxford Street Paddington) 7pm - 1am

Saturday 8th The Gaelic Theatre (64 Devonshire Street Surry Hills) 8pm - 5am

Sunday 9th The Orient Hotel (89 George Street The Rocks) 2pm - 12 midnight

Background:

The Australian soul scene is close-knit, enthusiastic and growing in numbers. "Gonna Be a Big Thing" is a collaboration of like-minded Sydney soul devotees, whose purpose is to get everyone who shares a love of soul music together to experience a weekend of total fun. We are privileged to have DJ's from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide, putting on their best sets for us all to appreciate.

Each day's event will have its own individual style, so that those who are interested in a particular type of soul music can enjoy their favourite sounds, whilst those to whom it may not be so familiar, can experience what it's all about. All the venues have a different feel, but importantly, all have a good wooden dance floor.

Friday 7th: Modern, Crossover & Northern

The "Meet and Greet" night at Paddington RSL, is where the weekend kicks off with a nice mix of Modern, Crossover and some Northern sounds. This is where the resident Sydney-siders, interstate and overseas friends get to catch up over a few drinks and those new to the music can get a great insight into the scene.

Saturday 8th: Oldies Allnighter

There are those amongst us who have been hankering for an all-nighter of Northern Soul nostalgia and this is it! The dance floor at the Gaelic Theatre is big, wooden and nicely sprung. There is a balcony, stage and a big bar which, unlike some allnighters of old, will be serving alcohol all night (not just a place to swap records.) Be prepared to dance your socks off to a selection of sounds from Wigan Casino, The Torch, The Wheel, The Mecca and more. Expect the big circle skirts, backdrops and more than a few stompers.

Sunday 9th: Alldayer - Across the Board Soul, Funk and Ska

A perfect chill-out day to ease into after the 'nighter, at a classy venue with loads of character. The top floor of the Orient Hotel has comfortable leather sofas, an amazing view over the Opera House and Sydney Harbour, plus, of course, a perfect old polished dance floor. The music will be a real mix, with something for absolutely everybody and just right to finish up what is going to be a cracking weekend!
