Tobi Legend - History Please?

Great record, and bootlegged before I got into northern, but never seems to be identified with any particular club. Is anyone credited with 'discovering' it? Where (and when) was it first played? Was it covered up at all?

Thanks for any info.

I remember RW trying to break it in about mid 74 and he had originals for sale at £12 in his shop.  But I believe as usual Levine originally played it.

Cheers Paul. £12 was a lot of money in 1974.

Don't think there's any Mala boots. I think the Eric boots were from about 1977 (?)

link

Not sure on the who played it first debate, but I attended the Casino from 73 onwards and RW was playing it way before it became one of the 3 before 8 and I think I first dance to and adored it in early '74.

Collectors here will be able to give the hierarchy of who when etc,

I am still the proud owner of an acetate that I had cut in 74/75 with Dena Barnes on one side and Night Owl on the other.

It still plays very well and I`m open to very substantial offers :(:P

We were all young once!

Just re read, Dena Barnes emi on a Tobi Legend topic?

What was I thinking. :(

Could be a new thread, what was your first EMIdisc. Mine was Butch Baker Workin' at The Go Go B/W Promatics Sugar Pie Honey, I bought in 73. I did live near Ormskirk, which at one time was the emidisc capitol of the world, with Pete Lawson and Keith Bradley flogging them :(

Thanks for that. So, this is what I've gleaned...

74 - Russ tries to break it (maybe at same time as Levine) and tries to flog copies for £12

75 - Soul Bowl have (the more common) demo's for £4

76 - Scallybob gets £50 for a copy (nice one)

77 - it becomes popular enough to get bootlegged on Eric

and a lot of people bought emidiscs.

Okay, thanks for that, people. I was hoping it would be a bit more interesting, but you can't have everything.
