Guest
Just a late reminder that this Saturday 19th February sees a night of brilliant music, at a brilliant venue. Classic oldies as well as some of the underplayed oldies that should be played but never are, at Solid Hit Soul , Vivos 17 Watling St. London EC4 with guest DJ John Weston + residents Martin Thomson, Gene Robertson, Stuart Tyler & Dave Greenhill. Entry is a fiver & we are open 9pm-2am - Bank tube 2 minute walk as are all night buses & the City Thameslink is only a 5 minute stroll. Hope to see you there Dave 0797 1876661 www.solidhit.co.uk Link to comment
Guest Andy BB
You can have all the best records on earth but I keep trying to tell you lot, without Bingo you're not gonna be taken seriously! I suppose I can have a night without it, I'll just do a double shift at Gala on Sunday. But you'll have to make it up to me with Gene Toones! Link to comment
Supercorsa
I'm hoping to scrape together a few quid to get along there. Does anyone know if there's any car parks nearby or parking restrictions, as it's almost impossible for me to get home on public transport otherwise! Link to comment

Supercorsa
I had a goodtime, especially liked Dave's spot as I'm a closet Oldies fan! Thanks Gene, Martin, Dave, Stuart and guest John Weston. Any playlists, please? Link to comment
Geoff
Just a quick thank you to my mates who run it plus John Weston, great night with great music. So nice to see so many of my friends there. So many records I wanted to dance to, and when you can't (hopefully temporary) it is very frustrating. Lesley had to restrain me when John played Good Times Bad Times, still I suppose you have to be sensible (a new thing for me, lol). Looking forward to the next one, Mark Bicknell is the guest DJ. Guest
Thanks to everyone for your positive comments, a great night & looking forward to April 16th Cheers Mark, looking forward to having you down for 16th All the best Dave G For those who didn't make it, here's a short summing up of the night with my playlist on the end. Apologies in advance, not sure on cross posting but I did post this on RSF. After the poor attendance at Decembers Solid Hit we were a tad apprehensive about this one but despite missing a lot of faces that you would normally expect at a London event Solid Hit Soul Club certainly hit the spot on Saturday. Fairly low numbers early on & most missed an excellent spot from Gene Robertson playing a mix of well known but not particularly obvious stuff with quite a few semi knowns thrown in with Trickster & Co on the floor early on. Stuart Tyler was on next, again playing a mix of semi knowns, unknowns & his alternate mix acetate of Midnight Johnnie. Stuarts plays were the absolute dogs dangley bits & why he doesn’t get a lot more bookings is beyond me.(although I’ve heard he’s big in Gothenburg ) Martin was next up, fresh from the Dundee night last week & as always he played a great mix of current nighter plays + a brilliant selection of well known oldies & semi knowns. Time for our guest for the night, a very sober JohnWeston & what a set he played. Maybe I need to get out a bit more but a lot of what he played I didn’t know (brilliant set John, thanks)& all the while the dance floor was heaving. Of course what is semi known to some people is a “everyone knows that one surely” to others but I have called them semi knowns because of the constant stream of people to the decks asking what particular records were! I was on last and played a set of well known oldies to send everyone home happy(hopefully). Mis placed some in my box so not a full list but most are here. Gotta say a huge thanks to everyone who turned up, especially those who had travelled distances & those who had left other events to come to us, cheers everyone, a brilliant night & hopefully see you all back on the 16th April when our guest will be Mark Bicknell. Here’s my last hour of oldies, thanks again. Solid Hit Soul Club 19/2/05 1am - 2am Frances Nero Keep on loving me Patrice Holloway Ecstasy Showmen Our love will grow Al Apollo I’m walking Timi Yuro I ain’t gonna cry no more Bill Horton I wanna know Johnny Howard The chase is on Dee Dee Warwick Don’t you ever give up on me Don & Ron I’m so so sorry Lenny Curtis Nothing can help you now Geno Washington Like my baby Valentinos Sweeter than the day before Gloria Parker The best thing for you baby Lonnie Lestor You can’t go Earl Grant Hide nor hair Herbert Hunter I was born to love you Lou Courtney I watched you slowly slip away Fenways The fight Carol Anderson Taking my mind off love Ideals Mighty lover Donald Jenkins Somebody help me & the bastard bar staff turned the speakers off during the Ideals but the monitor behind the decks played on & so did I for one last one!
