I'm planning on chatting to Miles Grayson in the next few weeks and would like to sound reasonably intelligent. Anyone got any info, history, questions, reord scans etc, they would like answers to?

Got this off a google search.

"Though Los Angeles's Miles Grayson served as a session pianist on a few of Blue Note Records' (somewhat ill-fated) West Coast excursions of the late '60s, it's his role as a session arranger and producer for which he's probably best remembered today. Grayson's studio time included work with West Coast R&B and soul musicians like Little Joe Blue, Brenda George, Little Johnny Taylor, Sonny Green and, most of all, the Texas-born, LA-based blues stylist and guitarist Z.Z. Hill.

Grayson would release a handful of painfully obscure instrumental 45s in his spare moments as a bandleader as well. Whether or not the title here is a reference to everybody's favorite glandular delicacy, (the title of the record was Sweet Breads) Grayson, like so many R&B and jazz artists, made the universally intuitive connection between savory food and funkiness.

Hill Records was a label that belonged to Z.Z.'s brother Matt Hill, who was that most recherch breed of record industry specialists: the independent label man."

hi,

Miles early recordings were as a duo Miles & andrew (Heard) whose sister was Oma Heard who went on to sing in the Sweethearts and did some duets with Marvin Gaye when she was signed with Motown,. may be of interest, although not strictly about Miles himself, He had 2 records released as a duo in 1959 and 1961........till the end of time Play 1002 and its heaven Deville 002. Dont have them so cant give you a scan.

cheers rob h.

Now theres a criminally ignored artist....

Rich

Absolutely agree Rich, and as anyone who heard him at Utrecht a few years back will testify his terrific high tenor voice is still very much intact. My hair was standing up on the back of my neck as he hit every high note, as he went through his Kent etc recordings....

Even Miles Grayson had forgoten about producing this record.

Told hubby that he was producing so many records in one week, he nevere knew what he was doing from one day to the other.

Hubby found this record for sale in L.A. 2004, showed it to him and he did not know it at all.

So by this time hubby bought the record in L.A. and Miles Graison signed the record there and then for him  (No extra payment, what he was going to make people pay was about $100 then)

Ask him where all the copies of William Powell "Heartache Souveniers" are, then PM me so I can have one :(

Would be interested to hear the story behind that classic record.

I'm pretty sure Wiliam Powell owned a record store in LA when he did the Power-House tracks. Sometime around this coming out he was shot. May be something like the story of "Try Me(For Your New Love)" and Junior Mccants family having the record pulled after his death.
