DA DOO RON RON MOVES TO KOMEDIA & CELEBRATES NINTH BIRTHDAY Grand Komedia launch & Ninth Birthday shindig - Friday 5 October Da Doo Ron Ron - 60s Girl Pop A-Go-Go! FRI 5th OCT- NINTH Birthday & grand Komedia launch Downstairs @ Komedia, 44, Gardner St, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 1UN Tel:01273-647100 11pm - 3am £6 / £5 Conc DJs Chris 'da doo' King + Simon Bridger spin 60s girly genius embracing 60s girl groups, Motown, French ye ye, girls in the garage, Northern soul, Sister funk, pop et al Da Doo Ron Ron, the club night dedicated to a femme-centric celebration of 60s girl groups and female singers, has reached the heady age of nine (Yes, now we are 9) and plans to party like it's 1965 at their brand new home(after 5 years at the recently sold Sussex Arts Club!), Komedia, on Friday 5 October. Established all the way back in October 1998 (at the Buffalo Bar in North London), Da Doo Ron Ron is a 60s orientated club night with a unique slant. In tribute to original 'girl power', DDRR DJs Chris 'Da Doo' King & Simon Bridger ONLY spin FEMALE-fronted tracks from the swingin' sixties and (occasionally) 50s and early seventies. You'll NEVER EVER hear a MALE LEAD vocal @ Da Doo Ron Ron! DJ and founder Chris 'Da Doo' King & regular long-term DJ compadre Simon Bridger (Brighton northern soul all-dayers) spin sparkly SIXTIES GIRL POP GENIUS from the likes of The Supremes, Brigitte Bardot, Dusty Springfield, Nina Simone, Nancy Sinatra, Aretha, Petula Clark, Shirley Bassey, The Ronettes, Dionne Warwick, Lulu, Chiffons, Shangri-Las, Etta James et al embracing Motown, French ye-ye / swingin' Mademoiselles, girls in the garage, Northern soul, Sister funk, pop et al And all spun on crackly vinyl! The essence of Da Doo Ron Ron lies in the sheer danceability of great tunes. The Da Doo DJs aim to fill that dancefloor! Although many of these epic anthems are over 40 years old, they possess a potent vitality, with sweeping orchestral sounds, effortlessly uplifting vocals, singalong choruses and relentless, pounding beats. The club ethos is DEFIANTLY non-elitist, which means that as well as lesser known northern soul and 60s pop rarities they also spin instantly recognisable tunes such as 'Be My Baby' by The Ronettes, The Supremes 'Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart', 'Give Him A Great Big Kiss' by The Shangri-Las and the foot stompin' 'These Boots Are Made For Walking' courtesy of Nancy Sinatra. That's all folks! Simon Link to comment
