Whatcha Mike

If my memory is correct then this is how it goes.

The track is the same as wilson pickett with the only difference being Luther Ingrams is a much better version in its recording. The vocal is more upfront and deeper plus the instrumentation/backing is better quality than wilson's lp version on Double L.

The funny thing is i don't think its really luther Ingram as Ady told me he was unsure of who the real singer was. Its a bit like the lou johnson - The panic is on - acetate..... No Name but the credits/sound/acetate connection (big top) point to maybe Lou Johnson.

The same goes for "baby don't you weep" but its a master tape not acetate with no name but a few things point to old Luther. There are are few other versions as well that got a 7" release (bit faster though and no way as good as Luther).

cheers greg

do you know what points to the "luther" connection

didnt know there was a "double l" connection with luther i

(lloyd price popping up again, thought the double l might have meant him and his brother but apparently not"

odd trivia dug/remebered while here

seems track remake/based on an old spirtual tune

"oh mary dont you weep, dont you mourn"

wilson pickett's one is avail on 45, its a portugese one like, dunno how scarce

who's the other version by, think was german dj who had it, but cant remember which one
