Just seen the new Vodaphone ad (where everyone is at the train station and checking the timetables on the mobiles)........and the sound track to the ad?

Mel Torme - "Coming Home Baby"........lovely

It seems that there is a veritable plethora of Soul tracks hitting the ads these days, I wonder if there's a real Soulie somewhere in one of the more successful Advertising Houses who's satisfying his/her craving for Soul by shoe-horning Soul tracks into adverts...good work if you can get it

There must be many tracks that would suit advertising.

The feel good beat Is what most strive to produce,

Northern Soul just there in waiting ready to use as a backing track to their products.

Imagine a Cold Cure company using, "I Got The Fever" how could anyone not feel better after hearing such an Awesome track.

I know KFC went a bit "Northern mental" a few years ago - I think a CD was released on the strength the number of ads they released with Northern tracks!

Not that it did the song much justice - but it was great to hear "Nothing but a heartache" on TV

I run an Advertising Agency (Grey Matter).

I often use Song Titles as a source of inspiration.... (OK.....I steal them!)

Here's a few Ads that I did a couple of years ago for Notts Adoption Services (a campaign for Black Adoption).

We did the full rebrand of the 'Nottinghamshire Adoption Agency' and created 'Forever Families' (much friendlier).

Have often used the wonderfully creative plethora of Record Labels too for Company & Product branding.

Watch out for Revilot (Cytometry Software)... coming to a Hospital near you!

IT IS OF COURSE MR K. ROBERTS

JUST A LITTLE ASIDE THOUGH, IN 1973 MY BEST MATE MOPSEY WAS ACCUSED OF NICKING HIS RECORDS.ANYHOW , ONE F*****G FREEZING TYPICAL NIGHT IN WIGAN, I WAS STANDING ON STATION ROAD WAITING TO GO INTO A POPULAR ALL NIGHT DISCO, WHEN A TALL , STREAK OF P**S WANDERED UP TELLING ME HE WAS OFF TO THE COP SHOP TO RETRIEVE SAID RECORDS.

SO I VOLUNTEERED TO ACCOMPANY HIM, WHEREUPON I FOUND MYSELF CHATTING ABOUT ALL SORTS OF SHIT TO WIGANS FINEST FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS (FOOTBALL,BACON & TOM SARNIES,FERRETS, PRICE OF DRIPPING, SOILED UNDERWEAR, FANNIES ETC..,YOU KNOW - OWT!!! ) UNTIL ROBERTS REAPPEARED CLUTCHING HIS NEWLY ACQUIRED SOUNDS FROM S.SOUSAIN.

UPON ENTERING THE NIGHTER , WORRIED MATES WERE A BIT SHAKEN THAT I HAD BEEN IN THE LOCAL COP-SHOP FOR THE LAST FEW HOURS. NO WORRIES, I THINK I GOT AWAY WITH IT - WHERES THAT FUCKIN DANCEFLOOR FOR THE NEXT 6 HOURS??!! -

Now call me suspicious if you like, but when was the last time anyone saw a scooter club like this? In my experience, scooter clubs are full of balding, beer-bellied folk in their 40s and 50s (and that's only the female members :unsure: )!!!!

This ad should be reported to the advertising standards people for gross misrepresentation!

How weird, Mr. Hampsey.

I'm a Sean too, and I'm doing the November CD swap too, and I've got an advertising agency too, and I've put Northern Soul references in ads too.

My guess is that you're an incredibly handsome bloke.

I know KFC went a bit "Northern mental" a few years ago - I think a CD was released on the strength the number of ads they released with Northern tracks!

You wouldn't know the name of it by any chance? I figured that there'd be one but I couldn't find it, just regular comps with 'Featuring .... from theKFC ads' stickers on them.

'Comin' home' got a whole lot of BBC airplay, but I wouldn't know if it made the charts, I thought it was well crap. It didn't make the sheet music charts though. They had one in the shop where I went to buy ukulele strings (Hey, it looked like a guitar on me...)

Actually, that last bit might have been about 5 years earlier. :D

i saw a movie trailer recently that used a weird rock version of a JJ Barnes tune as the music. cant remember the film or which tune off hand but it was just last week.

i work in advertising as well, as a designer, but havent really gotten to include much soul related stuff conceptually. have done a ton of soul specific work including this, which is featured in this years Print Regional Design Annual:

n791405488_219689_582.jpg

it does, however, look like i will be working on a campaign for the Washington State Lottery that will be "60s themed." should be fun ... maybe i can slip some tunes into the TV spots.

Hi Kev,

That site is at least two years out of date. Just can't get the beggers to update it as they're all busy on 'proper' work!

Bloody form over function more like!

You need to click on the thumbnails. It works AOK... but the new site that's on Beta at the mo (and has been for 6 months) will be far easier to navigate.

Yeah, but don't touch it with a sh*tty stick - it's been "Levined" to death :P

A lot of the ususal suspects on the track list - Bob Brady, Frank Wilson, Dobie Gray, Just Brothers et al..... and a few undiscovered tracks by Mr Levine himself :D (erm The Four phucking Vandals anyone)

It is a very sad case of beautiful Soul music being forced onto a cd - having all the soul sucked out of it, produced and re-worked to death, so it is a pale imitation of its former glory - it might as well have been sung by the phucking Spice Girls

It really is the work of someone who hates Soul music............cnut

I might post some of Mr Levine's handiwork if anyone wants to hear bastardised Soul music, but I warn you it'll make you cry :D

Apperently 'Detroit executives - Cool off' was an ad' for some soft drink in the US, well that's what I heard years ago. Any truth?

Dont know about that one, but on a few of my Arizona Cardinal DVDs from 2005 there are adverts for a credit card using Human Beinz nobody but me. Its the one in the UK where they have elaborate ads like a fancy dress in a pub, and a guy dressed as a Roman leaves a leiogon waiting outside.
