In The Early Days Of Stafford A lot Of People Left The Scene Because Of Staffords New Music Policy ,

I Always Believed That The two Venues Had Simlar Music Policies (Oldies room Upstairs) And A lot Of 'Stafford records' were Acctually Big Records At The Casino first,So What Records Were Big At Both Venues ?

Heres Four To Start :

C.O.D's Shes Fire (Mickey Valano At The Casino)

Eddie Day 4 bars Guess Who Loves You (Frank Wilson)

Terry Callier Look At Me Know

Deltours Sweet & Lovely (What A Record ,Awsome, what Was This C/u As)

Any More ?

when stafford started in 84 ish,,it was monthly and as u say lee was very much similar playlist to late wigan with searling and rushbrooke pretty much playing where they left off ...players 4 ,phantom janitor, gary sole , cashmeres etc, these nights were nearly always packed i seemed to remember,,any recollect harold melvin at the first anniversary?

the monthly niters went on for nearly 18 months before the new phase began and went fortnightly ,searling went just before and the new format carried on with the 60's mafia of guy and keb along with dave and the team chipping with all the now stafford classics...

i remember going to all three rooms at the TOTw,,especially the early ones at the very bottom then having to change rooms when they cleared other rooms that were in use ...

In Dave's own words in Stafford under the Top Dog baner opened in '82 by Keith and Dave. The line up consisted of Richard Searling, Gary Rushbrook, Dave Withers, Ady Pountain, Keith, Dave and on occasion Ian Clark. Upstairs in the "oldies" room, Pete Wild, Dave Alcock, Chris Plant, Dave Greet and Nick Marshall. There's an article in an old Manifesto with an article by Dave where this came from. Sure Mike posted it on site somewhere. '84 will be the Keb/Guy era I presume?

Not had a chance to read the article yet, but will do.

I think Keith helped promote the first night, before stepping aside. But he still did the last hour in the main room for years. Maybe right up until the the end.

Not far off - I'm pretty certain Stafford started very shortly after the end of Wigan, ie late '81/early '82.

Funny how everything blends into one as you get older. I seem to remember going the last Wigan one month and Stafford the next month, almost as if one era ends and another begins. I know i'm wrong, it can't have been that smooth a transition. I wonder what was going on in between? Or maybe they overlapped?

When was the last oldies niter, the one with the orange badge with the gramaphone on it?
