Yet More Northern On The Tv

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember either of these two programs being shown in the 70's/80s

1. A documentary about youth culture in the North West. It featured rockers, Bowie/Roxy Music fans and Northern Soul. The Northern section featured three dancers in Mr M's dancing to The Champion.

2. A play broadcast when the casino had just closed. It was based at a soul club (Wigan) and had captain of my Ship on the sound track.

Anybody got them on DVD/video ?

If you have a look at for sale/wants section, the thread "Northern soul DVDs" in Dvd No. 3 Pete Smith has it for sale, it was called "Out On The Floor" I think that was the one.

Yes, the first was part of an "OMINBUS" series about youth cults in the North West circa 1978,most of the northern section is available for the first time on the cd/dvd combo,SOUL FUNCTION well worth buying. :)

the play in question is "OUT ON THE FLOOR"(1983)by Debbie Horsefield who notably went onto do other tv series set in the North West such as "Cutting It" which also features a lot of references to northern soul etc. This is also available,Pete Smith has this on one of his northern soul dvds that he has for sale. Del x
