Clouds was in Edinburgh

Derby Kings Hall

Droyelsdon

Colony Club - Newbury

Bisley in the 7ts....think this was a nighter ????

The Mariner/Sound Barrier in Portsmouth

Blue Lagoon Portsmouth had a handful of Nighters

Winsford

Wilton

Hinckley Boy's Club

Rob Marriots Soul Power Nighters in Mansfield

BTW The Blue Orchid is still there.......was a night club in the 8ts, now a Hotel, with great function rooms.......ideal for a Nighter still.

There were also a few Modern Soul Nighters at the 100 Club in the 8ts, maybe 9ts.

I remember a friend telling me, that almost every major city had a Nighter back in the day, not all attended exclusively by the mainstream Nighter crowd, but all with a similar music policy. I also remember researching the 'Birdcage' in Eastney, Portsmouth, which is mentioned on the back of the 'New Relegeon' LP, for an article & going to Portsmouth Library to try & find some paper clippings for adverts from the Portsmouth news, when I was speaking with the librarian about this, a gentlemen who had overheard the conversation, took me to one side & gave me a brilliant insight into the place..............turned out he was squad & was in charge of the first raid there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. The local Royal Marines from the Eastney Barracks used to do the security on the door, when the Police raided the place, 'the bootnecks' wouldnt let the squad in & it all kicked off, allowing the local Mods enough time to get rid of any incriminating evidence.

When I said Steve in charge I meant you gave him responsibility for that room, sure thats what he mentioned in conversation about the venue once.

Rob Marriott charging the squad to get in, "don't give a f*ck who you are, tenner (or what ever the entrance fee was back then)"

Blues old warehouse in Sheffield run by steve Croft.

Another in Abington Oxfordshire can't remember the venue though Late 70's.

Winding Wheel A brill niter.

What was the niter in mexborough 80's

St Neots had two venues. One run by Rug Bowers r.i.p.

Cambridge corn exchange and was another one called Cleo's vein?

Earls Barton (Greyhound Stadium) - nr Northampton. My first niter.

...and a little place in the middle of nowhere on the road between Northampton and Kettering, think it was called the Halfway House. Long, long time ago.

Bisley Pavilion (Nightshift Club) already mentioned for the 70's but still doing niters.

-Kev.

Oops! Sorry Kimbo - see you've already acknowledged the Barton Blockers!

Hi Kimbo,

The Red House - that was the place! Can't remember if it was a regular niter or a one off though.

From Moulton myself - when it was a village not a business park, then moved to Roade but it was to far to Wilby and the right side of Northampton, so left home at 16 and moved into the town, and later Corby for a short while.

Hi Kev you may well know Mel Nichols from that time, The george wilby, Nags head wollaston, Shades. I'm from Irchester. Did you know wilkie and crew from corby.

Hoping to get to Letchworth at some point also made it to Bisley about a year ago. There a lot happening in this area still, also it has never got the credit it was due in the early years.

this site is excellent ,a pleasure to hook up with a proper blocker!

Best Kimbo.,

How about the Centre Newton Aycliffe. Went there once in 74. Jumped the trains to get there, had duff gear. Good Northern in one room. The film "Diamonds Are Forever" in another room ohmy.gif . And arrested on the train on the way back for having no ticket  . I think it was the week before Wigan 1st anniversary.

I dj,d at all the colwyn bay all nighters , searling was a regular plus sam and all the local lads. great nights until the colwyn borough council and police pulled the plug due to gear issues.

may be a bit of a blur but i think i did go to a niter at the ritz once ?? loved the all dayers ther though.

There have been numerous all nighters in the Burnley area from around 67 onwards.

I haven't seen the Circulation Club mentioned? They ran all nighters from around 75 onwards. Ginger and Eddie were the main guys and I'm sure Richard played there as a guest.

They also did all dayers there in competition with the Rose Room.

Dave Moore or Fergie will know all the ones from the mid 70ts onwards in this little hotbed of Northern Soul.

Coalville

Carlisle wasn't there one there for a while

Carlisle Market Hall allnighters, circa 1978- Mike Walker/Casino ran them from Wigan, and even put on buses from the Wigan area to Carlisle.

I think they were concerned about another nighter in Carlisle which Richard Searling/Soul Sam dj at, which they thought would stop people from Scotland travelling down to the Casino.

No, I ran them all with Danny Everard. It was sort of the end of the Stafford era, everyone went off to do other things after that. But even with the police hassel, they were good fun.

Remember it well - Northern room was upstairs at first and can still picture Clarkie spinning Delegates of Soul (newie at the time I think) in a little box up some steps at the side of the room. Think it then went to a one room only event in the large ballroom downstairs with the plushest toilets ever!!

Don't think Lincoln Drill Hall has been mentioned plus a couple of Nighters were held at the Samson & Hercules in Norwich when St Ivo shut (1977). I also did a one-off Nighter at Norwich UEA in '89 but this probably doesn't count. Also remember going to the 2nd Nighter on the Strand, London at some Dance School but it was cancelled and buses were laid on to the replacement venue above some Jamaican hangout.

There was definately two rooms Mark, oldies upstairs. Here's an advert from the November 1987 Echoes.

Think there was just the one all-nighter after this one, Boxing night. Could have been one more

Kebs last three records in his last set outside of London was the Boss 4, Charmaines and JD Bryant.

there were nighters in carlisle around 95 - don't think there were that many and I think Pete Lowrie was involved

about 88/89 went to a nighter at Hayling Island

then around 5 years ago there were a few nighters at the Camel Club in Huddersfield

also in the mid 90's there were some nighters at Finsbury Park (I think) - they were 3 room affairs with Northern (Ady djed), 60' garage, and something else which I can't remember. Alan Milner run them and the one I went too was a right laugh.

there were also a couple of nighters at Mussleburgh, and then Derek Robertson done another somewhere in Edinburgh about 98 but can't remember where - can remember going walkabout with Colin Laws and Yogi the next day though

Hi mate did the rowing club hold niters? remember going to souls nite in the 80's but never new that.

=============

In the mid 7Ts when every town had a nighter. Went to a couple, reasonably well attended, (mostly local) but crowd knackered by 4 in the morning. Maybe cos it was so close to the Pilgrim it was the natural progression

I ran it for a year after Stafford closed. DJ's included Butch, Ian Clarke, Guy, Keb, Ady Pountain, Jonathon, Adam, Robin over two rooms, one modern the other northern. From the day we started to the day it closed we were harrassed by the police and thats why it's a hard venue to use. Asked not long ago and the police in the town are just anti allniters. Shame

Yep, remember the coppers searching me as soon as we pulled into the car park.

Was in the Winding wheel a month ago for a business event I'm running. Stunning venue.

Simsy, The Lantern in Market Harborough was separate and a decade before Market Harborough Welland Park School.

Studio 21 Oxford St, Randy's old Last Chance venue and London's first ever Northern nighter.

Loughborough Town Hall

Jim Eddlestone ran one in a country park in lincs

Saints & Sinners in Birmingham

Demob warehouse nighters near where Keb usually gets married.
