Mr M And The All Nighters In Vancouver

Recommended Posts

Mr M and The All Nighters are Vancouver's Northern Soul tribute band, we play many of the classic Northern x over tracks Higher and Higher, Tainted Love, Move On Up etc., however we also play some rarer material such as Pat Powdrill's "Do It", Mary Love's "Lay this Burden Down" and Willie Mitchell's "That Driving Beat".

We play regularly in Vancouver [gigs 2-3 per month], we have a great line up with full horn section and vocals. The gigs have been attracting the Vancouver mods in ever increasing numbers, we are doing our thing to keep the flame alive on the west coast of Canada.

I'd be interested in opening up a dialogue with various members of this forum on the validity of tribute bands of the Northern Soul variety, granted there are not too many about, which is probably a good thing. Our philosophy is based on the soul traditions of keeping the music alive, in light of ever changing trends in the music world and to bring the music to new audiences.

We are also interested in coming over to the UK possibly in 2009, so if you are in the business of promotions we'd be open to chatting about the possibilities. Our other goal is to record at Willie Mitchell's Royal Studio in Memphis and record a classic soul album of our own.

And in case you are wondering the band has roots in Wigan and was partially inspired by Russ Winstanley, so our pedigree is pretty authentic :-)

Geez I didn't realise the Yale Hotel had such a bad rep world wide....

I hear ya, Russ Winstanley does not have a great reputation, but he had a great shop at one time and in Wigan he was regarded highly; apparently not so these days.

At least that was the message I got from some of the people from Lowton when in Seattle for their rare soul weekender back in November.
