So refreshing to hear music that was played all night accepted by everyone. Just goes to show that there is a market for Rare quality soul IMHO. Venue was a lock out and the dance floor was busy all night. Getting the playlists together Mike, just waiting for some notes to arrive from Sheridans as I left the buggers there. QUALITY Oldies (Dj's take note), newies, acetates, it had it all. I can't wait for the next one. Best music all year up north, bar Arthur Fenn at the Frobisher. Glad we woke up to attend. Hats off to the DJ's who went the extra mile to push the boat out and play some mega tunes for the first time in ages. When was the last time you heard the Ambers played out?! Genius. Petebangor Posted February 24, 2004 Share Posted February 24, 2004 I did Soul Underground in Walsall on Saturday night,busiest night yet,150 plus in this intimate venue.Line up was John Corless,Kev Etheridge and Ralph Tee from Expansion records,along with regulars Jamie and Lin Taylor.All aspects of the modern scene were covered,I think Kev covered them all in his set alone!Kev spun everything from tent music to soulful house and was very animated behind the decks.Ralph mixed it up,playing Gwen Mcrae-'Keep the Fires Burning'(got to be the best bassline ever on that track)Ralph also played an unreleased Rick James track,which grabbed everyone's attention,hope to get some more details on that.Jamie kicked the evening off as usual with a great mix of new soulful house and a couple of classics thrown in.Lin finished the night off with a classic set,Bobby Womack,Gems for Jem and one of my all time favourites The Gift Of Dreams-'Feel It'. This venue is an absolute must for modern fans,intimate with a great atmosphere. Check it out! Pete Link to comment
