Don't Laugh - Just Played This And It Sounded Brilliant

This hasn't been played at a venue since 1978 as far as I know, and I can't remember the last time I played it - 10 years ago. So I just played it and it sounded f*cking brilliant.

TEDDY VANN - THEME FROM COLOREDMAN - CAPITOL

absolutely pounding instrumental. Revive it, now!

p.s. I am not mad

p.p.s. the more I listen to it, the more I start to feel I made a mistake

Not laughing either, stormer as stated.

Have a black UK looking dooby.. sure it's a pressing.. Think there's a vocal intro version with the bloke going on about Ramsey Lewis glasses and IQ's & such, or is that the b side of the original? Label? Too many questions?

I don't hate it Pete. I'm not going to rush out and buy a copy though. :o) In fact, where in 1978 was this last played? Wigan?

It was quite a short lived record really because at the time, Capitol in the UK had someone who was quite on the ball and they issued this just as it peaked. Alan Rhodes was the first Wigan dj to play it, then Russ and Richard both played it, then it was over. This was at the time Wigan was going through a sh*t stage to be honest, but hearing it just now, it sounded very powerful.

Official UK release that is mate, from 1978. It must have been theme from a radio or tv series, and the original US copy has the monolgue on the other side too

The hell I will ... No seriously, I'll have a word with Smudge, I think he's got the vocal one. Goes on a bit though, as in 90% of the record is chat, then the all too familiar intro kicks in at the end.

Funny wont play with Firefox but fine with Safari, had the LP and remember going mad to this and all the fluff from the carpet collected around the side of the room, I got a right bollokin for wearing out the carpet.

Never knew it was a Si Fi program? unsure.gif or should I say spoof Si Fi.

I can't listen to it so will continue on the moral high ground for now of not having to say it sounds okay! , But what I am laughing at is the title, in todays PC world surely they could never call something like this, and have to sort of agree, it just sounds a real naff thing! :D

I was watching some of those telly clips of NS stuff over weekend and they had a few of the big instrumentals on them and you find yourself tapping your feet along as they do bring back memorys, one was Steve Karmen, which I know isn't a complete instrumental, but it got me going I must admit. My other half who is used to me spouting about not enough soul in Northern just looked at me like I had lost the plot!

Out in public of course I would shake my head and say No No No if they were ever played! :D

Jeepers that brings back memories......Back in the eighties when i was a green teenager and having made my first tentative steps into the Mod world of Dublin i bought a copy of a tape that some lads fresh back from an exotic 'northern soul night' in england had compiled and this was one of the tunes on it. had loads of that stompy sound on it and was definitely a major influence on adoption and development of my taste.

sounds crap today tho' laugh.gif

Oooh closet Blockhead - well in lad.

Love TV - sits in my memory banks alongside Derek & Ray, Doris Troy, Paula Parfitt, Michael McDonald, The Ad Libs, Paula Durante, Paul Anka, The Righteous Bros, Peggy March etc etc - a schoolboy with a hidden cache of tracks that the other kids neither knew or understood.

Just been reading that Teddy was co-writer on Vandross' 'Power Of Love' album too.

a snippet i found on the net, :shades:ph34r.gif ,

A totally great little album -- a comedy set that packs the same righteous punch of blacksploitation work from years later! The album's a set of skits penned by Teddy Vann, arranged by Horace Ott, and narrated by James Earl Jones -- all the humorous tale of a black superhero, Coloredman, with a variety of different routines acted out by some additional cast members. There's two short instrumental tracks -- both titled "Colored Man Theme Music" -- which are pretty great, and there's a bit of additional music that's sometimes in the background on the spoken numbers that include "The Story Of Coloredman", "The Adventure Of The Stolen Afternoon", "The Coloredman Interview", and "Coloredman Vs Fruitman".
